I have brewed lots of beers but never anything with any kind of fruit.  I basically brew IPAs and pale ales.  Morebeer in Concord is a great resource for information and ingredients.  They also have a dot com business if Concord isn't convenient.  The people in the store are very knowledgeable and willing to share.

Yup I just have never done a pumpkin ale I was planning on just doing a standard American wheat and adding pumpkin and some of the spices you would use for pumpkin pie and use the California ale yeast

I've done a little bit of brewing.  I have been too busy with work and twin baby girls for the past few years to do it.  You can't go wrong with the California Wheat.  My wife loved it.  I also did an English Common Bitter that was awesome as well.  Luckily Firestone is available everywhere near me and they have a great line up.

Never done one personally, but I've listened to quite a bit of discussion of them on BBR.. Again, not from personal experience, but it sounds like you are best off skipping the pumpkin entirely - it takes a ton of real pumpkin to get to a reasonable starting gravity, and for little perceived benefit. Probably not worth using canned pumpkin, which is normally not even pumpkin, but sweet potato IIRC. Seems like you can get a "pumpkin" beer by focusing on getting the right amount of 'pumpkin pie spice', which is the flavor most people associate with pumpkin.

Austin Homebrew has some good prices and varieties, this is where I get all of my supplies.

My two favorites
Double chocolate stout
http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=310

Irish Red Ale
http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=342

or if you want something for the winter you could always make some hard cider which is super easy and you could spice it.
