I've never tried grilling big squid steaks before. Sounds yummy though.

I'll bet the trick is to avoid overcooking it.

Can't wait til they get here in MB!  I let them soak in water (or milk if you like) overnight.  Slice them thin and stir fried them quickly over high heat.  Make sure you don't over cook them as they'll get tough.  For the grill, I cut them steak size then tenderize it the same way as you do for Abalone and it came our great!

it is strictly a PB thing to catch these guys? I always thought they were offshore & deep water critters.
The ones I've seen in SoCal/mex are wicked.
This squid talk is making me hungry to try catching a few of those ugly things.

Unfortunately these giant squids prefer to live in deep canyon which is out of kayak range.  I went out on a charter boat in Monterey about 2 years ago and caught 5 of them (which filled-up my big cooler)  :smt003  Gave some to the next door neighbor and coworkers at work and they loved it.

I dont know that I would wanna catch one on the yak! When we fished for them on the PB A few years ago we would gaff em and throw em on deck, you could actually feel and hear them clawing and biteing the deck ferouciosly!...The deck probably would be your legs!...Big ass beaks! :smt009

Those squid eat rockfish big time.  Fun to catch and eat, but it's better if they stay down south where they belong.

Just another milestone waiting for ncka to conquer: humboldt squid from a yak!
I dont want to catch one because those things are gnarly tough...might chew right through the bottom of your yak! But if so
ebody actually did it...they'd be instant legend status!
They come within paddling range near Carmel sometimes. And its been considered, but never accomplished.

They've been catching them from yaks down in La Jolla recently.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...
