I'm thinking of hitting it this weekend and was wondering if you or anyone else knew about the water clarity. I heard they are working on the river somewhere and that due to that work the water gets all mudded up during mid-day. jim

Just came off the water! Clarity isn't too bad way down at Watt and Howe. They are laying gravel way upstream. The water levels are down but the fish don't seem to care!

I'm in for Monday! Haha, am there everyday!

The distance between Watt and Howe is a little over a mile. It's easier to launch at Howe, and paddl e up right now. The best spots for salmon are by the power lines, which is halfway. And to get back up to the watt ramp is a pain in the butt...

Plus if you launch at Howe you can hit the spot below Howe also.

Plus 2, its easier to launch at howe and go up. water clarity is a lil stained but i could see the bottom at 8ft or so. And just like matt said, you can go downstream of howe and fish behind sac state as well. Going north or south from howe is probably about the same in action imho! either launch though, watt or howe, you have to kind of fight the current just to get back to the launch but its totally doable. water releases/flow right now is 4000cfs and is just perfect.

Is there room for a newbie to salmon fishing? I got monday off work and was thinking about fishing and the salmon bite looks to good to pass up. Are you just using spoons in the river?

fished monday ... lots of steelies under 20"   saw a few salmon but most spotted were below Watt..  floated all day with crazy Mike Koe.  worms and large leach flies were the ticket. all the inside corners held fish.  the flow will go up each night to at least 4K while the days will be at 2.  dirty water after noon even downsteam at Grissmill and Watt.

here come the salmon....]
