Must be the same sub that broke my reel and snap my circle hook in half like it was a potato chip last tuesday.

Mooch, I had the same experience down in Mexico on the Islander. Line was peeling off so fast I couldn't slow it down with my thumb either. I finally got a glove from someone and was able to clamp down to break it off before all the line was gone. Never saw what it was. Some speculate a furbag, or large shark. Usually you see a fur bag tho. I want to spend some time down in La Jolla some time. Would love to go after those yellowtail. Looked like a great outing with the boyz.

What a blast!Chucks folks were total class, great place, Mooch is going to put an RV on the land.... The fishing was a bit slow at first, besides my first drop that landed 6 Macks for me and Dustin, we had pods of Dolphin jumping all around us for a bit, very cool, about noonish, my rod went bendo and a big Thresher breached 10 feet behind my and went crazy with aerial skill, big runs, line screaming off, and a few more spectacular series of jumps, hitting the water and instantly going up again at 90 degrees, my line screaming out, I had him by the tail twice, the second time, I hauled him up enough to get a gameclip in his mouth and he went bezerk and broke off, slapping me in the back and leaving me with a huge smile and shaking with adrenalin. The best fight ive ever had, good for him to get away. At least 8 feet long and full of piss and vinegar, but he smelled good anyway.
Oh, there were lots of pretty girls too.

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

It was great to see the NorCal crew in my home zone. I wish I'd had more time to visit, or better yet, get out and fish.

I've attended every one of the Moyer tournaments and all but the first La Jolla Kayak Fishing contests (the event was renamed in honor of Matt's dad Steve). We're talking a 14 year history, the longest running in kayak fishing.

The high water mark was somewhere around 200 anglers. In those days, the tournament was more aggressively marketed. It also wasn't quite as expensive / held during a time many are hurting financially. And stop me if you've heard this one - the community was tighter then, and information shared freely. That's no longer true for understandable reasons.

I refuse to believe the Moyer has run its course. Sadly, this might have been the final chapter. We'll find out next year, when we'll learn whether the local community cares enough about the tradition to pitch in or even take over management. Jim and Matt and their families have put their hearts and souls into it. Thanks guys for the great run.
