Aaron was one of my very best fishing friends/brothers on the water.

I had no idea this was even possible.

Is this Aaron from MBK?

Either way, very unfortunate and sad.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I fished with Aaron a lot over the last few years and he was a great guy and devoted husband. Let's remember him for how he lived and not how he died. Unfortunate circumstances can happen to anybody. He was a good fishing buddy and friend and they are hard to come by. I will miss him dearly as will the rest of our crew. Below is a picture taken of Aaron on his last trip to Big Sur. Rest in peace amigo. Scott

So many problems in this area of life :smt009 ... Death of a parent can be so upsetting, world ending... Wish the family peace, and understanding from all others. Wish he could have reached out... Everyone has a breaking point. Aaron, RIP Wish there was more to say/do
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

100% with you Scott. Aaron took me to a number of spots that it would have taken me years to discover on my own (if I ever would have). Cliff drops, live bait, all kinds of stuff. Before that I was pretty much a swimbait only kind of paddler.

Our first trip out at Davenport one spring, he and I got greeted by a gray whale that surfaced about 20ft from Aaron's kayak. We were so amped that morning, after we put the kayaks on the trucks we just stayed at the beach watching a couple of yak surfers-we felt like we were in hawaii.

When I was followed/stalked at Bean, Aaron was the one I was counting on to get me out of the water fast should I get knocked over.
I remember one day he was insistent I take a huge sack of lemons from his backyard tree,  because he thought they would go with the sand dabs I had kept for dinner.

RIP my friend, you are missed.

Oh Shit!!! I can't believe it.  Aaron and I had a lot of mutual respect for each other.  I'll always remember him for being a super cool guy and one of the best kayak fishermen NCKA has ever known.  I'm sad for his family, friends, and all of his good fishing buddies here.

This is how I'll remember our brother Aaron:

Like Scott, I too have fished with Aaron and "Alien" a number of times, especially when I first started kayak fishing.  In fact he sold me my Prowler 15.  He seemed like such a level headed and genuinely friendly guy.  I am so saddened to hear about this.  I am accustomed with working with people in crises that occasionally ends in suicide, but I have never been involved in a tragedy of this magnitude.

Aaron, may you rest in peace, and my prayers are with your family.

Doug

I first printed the message below and then realized that this might seem premature while people are still mourning the loss of an NCKA brother. I am so sorry to hear this happen to a man who obviously was a great member of this board and touched so many people personally. I never fished with him that I remember, but those vouching for him tell me he was one great guy.

I didn't mean to diminish the tragedy in any way. We lost a few brothers in arms when I served because we just thought they'd shake it off—because we saw them as they were not what they'd been pushed into feeling. I posted the below with the best of intentions.

If anything good can come out of this it is this: depression is real and dangerous and can happen to most of us given the right set of circumstances. So if you or anyone you know shows signs, get them treated—ASAP. It's natural and human to become depressed sometimes and not shameful but some people need help dealing with it constructively. These are tough times and more people need help than in recent memory. Friends and relatives need to be vigilant when there are troubles—vigilance and action can save lives.
