Other than there is a No Kayak parking sign.

Last Saturday 6/18, a parking lot attendant was politely asking kayakers to clear the loading area by the beach once loading you're is done.

Next thing you know you need to pay a $1 mil. membership to get in there.

The parking situation there was unclear to me at first, but then one of the workers there pointed out public beach access parking is a couple hundred feet away from the loading area. It lines the 17th hole. So yes, that parking is off limits. The area could use some signage, though. Plus, they're doing some reworking of that area, making the loading area even smaller.

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

I agree.  When I started kayak fishing there over 8 years ago.  We never had any parking issues.  Unfortunately, with the growing popularity of sport and that fishing spot, it's just not going to get any better for us.  I just hope they don't totally restrict us from coastal access.

first let me say that everyone there has never been anything less than nice to me there.  But is coastal access a gift they allow us or a legal requirement?

8 years ago? are you sure- 2003?  I can still remember the first time we went there...I think it was the next week after SCallen and i had stupidly paddled all the heck the way over from carmel beach.

http://www.coastal.ca.gov/access/accessguide.html

Heres the low down for the state access points.

Oops! You have to buy the GD book. We pay taxes for all the legislation then we have to pay for the guide too? That sucks.

I regularly see divers without kayaks take prime parking spots there.  This not helping people like us.

I was reminded of the same thing on Sunday.  I saw it as a worker who is just trying to follow orders and take care of his duties at the same time.  Yes, I think he could have been friendlier about it, but I don't think customer service was his strong suit.  Too bad that a few people who park near the gym are causing the increased enforcement.

For the coastal access, they're not preventing access to it - just reserving the prime parking spaces for their customers.

Anyway, the vibe is totally different than the campground ranger in big sur and I'd rather deal with a reminder than harassment.  Park, unload, re-park - simple enough.

+1

I've been lazy a few times when it is 6am and pouring rain and nobody else is there at all (still should've moved I know, just being honest), but with increased scrutiny I am committed to following the rules no matter the conditions or number of people out.

Don't you get wet anyway?  :smt002

Seriously, we've all done it before. I just haven't been there enough to test their rules.

It's not a bad thing, they are just being up front about what they have said for years.  I'm glad there is a sign now, because it was pretty much word of mouth before and with all the newbies seeing reports for the place they will flock to it without any prior knowledge.  Lets just hope people can follow the rules now that they are posted  :smt002

agreed.  There are few people in this world I would NOT help in an emergency.  The Limekiln Ranger is one of them

Pebble Beach has to give coastal access by law. They can however restrict where you park and can close access to Stillwater when they have special events. Please park along the hedgerow parking lot if available, sometimes it NOT! In which case you have to park by the tennis courts/spa, and walk down the fairway to the beach club,no big deal. The guy"watching" everything is just there to keep the flow moving and not allow non members to park there for hours.Still the best deal in town. July 4th is going to VERY busy and parking will be an issue,be cool...Also I heard7/8-9-10 they will denie access because of a golf tournmnt.

I have a silly question here. When you park by the 17th fairway, do you back up all the way out of those spots back on to the main road to get out? I have parked there before and it is a pretty tight squeeze for a big truck and there appears to be only one way in. I have driven down to the end but there isn't a decent place to turn around.

I would definitely like to obey the rules so we can still enjoy this place. Thanks for the post.
