Couple of pics sent into me by my dad. Some friends fishing off a boat in SE Alaska (between Yakatat and Sitka). This was a slot fish and was released.

The muskie was caught by dad in central Canada. 48"

Correction: not "slot" but oversize.

Friend said they  and one other couple released two 3 digit Halibut and
several in the 50-70 lb range,  maximum size allowed to keep was 37
inches in SE Alaska. Limit was 1 per day, 3(?) in posession.

The ling were released also, too big,  had to be returned. They fished
an area that  opens only for a couple weeks w/  limited number of
boats

He say they're not going back, too many regulations, few Kings. The
fishing lodges are having a hard time, people not booking with the
limits so low.

Here's a Humboldt ling caught yesterday north of Trinidad - not as big, but California's a lot closer than Alaska!   :smt003

I noticed that right away too!
I've been rocked by strong fish several times on gear like that, I'm sure the fish were of similar size :smt003

So how would you like to be reaching into a hole for an AB and see that ling looking back at you? Run Away!

Seems like we could play the Howard Stern game of

Is it Alaska or is it Shelter Cove?

That Alaskan ling is so huge and healthy looking! Not just the big head, but a girthy body to boot. It's mouth looks like it could swallow that woman's head!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.
