Last week I was fishing with Fish Master 1 in Monterey when a small sea lyon came out of the water and
bit my fish finder. It  really startled me.  If you have fished in the ocean, sooner or later you are going to have a seal of seal lyon come and try or actually steal your stringer.  They never say thank you either.  I have a Hobie and my fish finder is in the middle of the yak forward of the mirage system where the mast is inserted.   It sits about six inches above the rest of the
yak.  I'm interested if anyone else has experience aggressive behavior similar to this.

There's a famous story out there about papa Bill getting a lap dance.  I believe pictures are posted on the site somewhere.

I was harassed last year at GMS4. Seal came up and tried to pull my stringer of fish out of the tankwell. Fortunately he didn't manage to grab it. Unfortunately I was taking a leak when he hit and managed to piss all over myself.  :smt012 I got my revenge when he came back around for a second try. It sure is satisfying to bash one of those thieving furbags over the head with a club.  :smt075 SMACK! He didn't come back after the attitude adjustment.  :smt003

I had a tagged otter chew on my yak for a while at Elk once, until he decided that Scott's scupper pro looked better.

Not yet, but I know it is only a mtter of time....

I was diving with porky one day and had a few rockfish strung up at the base of my gun and this BIG ol' sea lion charged me hard and fast from below and I charged back at him with the gun and chased him off!  :smt013

I'm not a fan of them either above or below the water, but recognize that if I want to be out there doing my thing that is part of the game.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Joel aka "Big Red" from Santa Cruz was attacked repeatedly just outside the SC Harbor a while back. It actually left his kayak with a few "scars".

I believe Steve aka "Chef" (RIP) was also attacked at Monterey.

Johnguinepig was free diving at Stillwater / South and was bitten under his arm (tore his wetsuite). He was bitten again on his leg as he made his way to the surface...

After all the other fish that you've speared, a little ol sea lion would just be another notch on your spear gun.  Although I don't think you would do 'the pose' with it :smt005 :smt005

Was it this guy??
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

He was a pesky little bugger, but believe it or not, my best fish came while he was nearby. Eventually I paddled by some other guys and he deserted me...

...Moss Landing 2005: this was by no means "an attack" but this guy wanted to board me and I did not let him.

*Note that he has an orange tag on him.
