Whew...  lit a fire under this thread ...      Now,  c'mon ,  really !!!     This thread is about what kayaks Toona should take a look at.

What I said was he should buy a kayak based on  Toona's needs ...    not mine or yours.

First, I  suggested going to Fishermans Warehouse in Manteca to see the OK brand,  as it's less than 15 minutes from Modesto.  I'm pretty sure Eric doesn't get a commision on selling kayaks from the Fresno store 4 + hours away.    Suggesting driving all the way to MBK  to demo a kayak because " he's a good guy "  isn't helping his local shops nor does it seem like a good reason to choose a kayak...
Yes,  Eric is a super guy, fisherman, and friend.   I re-read my posting and don't see how that could have been taken as an attack on Eric or Fishermans Warehouse.      Cut me some slack fercryingoutloud...

Sharky,  says...
Check out Austin kayaks online to get a feel for the prices.   Support your local store even if it's a little more.

Yeah,   I've got all sorts of foreign made products.   It kills me to HAVE to purchase these things that used to keep Americans employed.  So if I slam a foreign competitor  it's because I'm sick to death of the havoc it's wreaked with jobs in this country.    Some will keep chanting the mantra,  " Its a global economy "  that's your choice.    I was born in Oakland, grandparents and parents all resided in East Bay.  Father was ILWU  rep. for the Oakland Chapter .    What used to be the center of mfg. is now dilapidated buildings... The  only industry now is the Port of Oakland  moving imported goods onto trucks. A reversal of the day we loaded goods onto ships leaving the port.

Now,,, regarding  those  upside down, crab like,  cigar shaped, odd boats some of you paddle around in....  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044      Relax ,   Ya  can't take a joke ?  :smt003        Some of you are trying to interject a lot more into my words than were said or intended.        What is so wrong with telling this guy to take a look at a Raptor ?    It's  a new kayak most havn't seen yet , it's the most stable kayak on the market,   it's made in his local community, sold by a local shop  a short drive away.
Y'all  also suggested every other kayak, but surprisingly didn't mention Hobie either.

Re; YakAngler.     and my posting to a thread.     It didn't bother me so much about the jabs about the boat .   What pissed me off was the juvenile comments reverting to direct attacks on a friends 15 year old kid son whose photo  was posted on my website.   " He looks like he has to poop!   ha ha "    not so funny and certainly not what I'd call "playful jabs".      Amazing what people will say when hiding behind the anonymity of the internet that they would never say in person.

I've been to two NCKA events now, plan on lots more.  Met some of you.  I will get to know others over the years I'm sure.   As some of you get to know me you'll find out I'm not a total asshole, just a little rough around the edges at times.    I tend to say things as I see it, certainly not to be offensive.   Just like my kayak design,   some will like it , some won't.
Now I have to go back to reading my book " How To Make Friends and Influence People "...  :smt004

Baitman, your boat looks interesting. I would take the comment that it looks like the "Ady Gil" from Whale Wars as a compliment. Didnt that boat take the around the world speed record? That takes speed and seawothyness.
Would like to check the Raptor out at ARW.

Baitman, you still havent answered my question about the ability to single handedly recover from a capsize on the open ocean. Buying your kayak isnt going to bring the industry back to Oakland. It aint coming back. Ever. I admit its an interesting design and it may be the most stable boat on the market but its lines dont equate speed. I havent even paddled one and I can tell you that. Now, back to self rescue. Got a vid of that? Also, as far as I can tell the folks in NZ arent taking anything away from your local business at all.  Do you buy your kayak outerwear, PFD, inner wear at Kokatat? I certainly hope so. All made right here Holmes. :smt006

Love my Kokatat jacket, wish I could have found their angler model PFD .  Even at the Bay Area Paddlefest event in Fremont, the Kokatat rep couldn't help me out.  I've been  using a BassPro PFD which is extremely comfortable, cheap, but like you said, hard to find anything anymore that isn't made in China.   Mysterioso  inner wear. ( USA )

Single handedly recover from a capsize... ?  Of course !    If it couldn't at least do that,  I wouldn't take it out myself, let alone recommend it.   We've got the video on our website.   It's every bit as easy as getting back onto a SOT.    yeah you would have to pump the remainder of the water out...  but the thing is.  You can't flip this boat over without deliberately  trying.
At the BAP in Fremont.  Some woman who teaches the Greenland roll technique  decided to try it in a Raptor.   I tried to tell her she wouldn't be able to roll it over, let alone back up.  The crowd gathered round and chanted encouragement...     She finally gave up on that and told me that was the first kayak she's ever NOT been able to roll.
Sorry we have not made a video of all that under 20 knot winds ...  give me time.  Still looking for help in that department.     Anybody willing to video shoot?

I've been diving off it already.  There were a couple guys up north  using them for Ab diving...  who reportedly said through a third party that someone repeated  on this site that it was a " slug ".    OK   you heard me repeat that, so would that be 4th person ?       I know it's a lot faster and easier to paddle than my Ocean Kayak Scupper pro...   Equal to my wife's Wilderness 120  I think.    At the paddlefest I was racing a guy in a Hobie with the Mirage Drive... Those pedal things are faster for sure, but I gained a lead turning around the bouy.

Dang it... hit the post button accidentally.   Wasn't quite  done there.

Sharky,,   I'm going to try to hit the ARW for some recon on Monday in my "rocket boat.."    Hopefully see you there.     Hard thing to do considering the drive / gas situation.

Especially considering the hot action that 's not happening outside Santa Cruz  harbor lately.

I paddled the Scupper Pro for the first time the other day and was actually impressed with what a nice handling kayak it was. I noticed that RTM Bought the rights for it from Ocean Kayak and is now using the mold to bring back the Scupper under a new name. Check it out.

I just wish this Johnny-come-lately would start a raptor thread (maybe he has) instead of shamelessly plugging his relatively untested and unproven product to new kayak anglers.

RTM has been doing this for a long time.  Long ago they used to be the manufacturer for OK in Europe.  After OK was bought by Johnson Outdoors, this relationship was discontinued.  RTM bought the right to the Scupper and other OK kayaks.

Or if you want another "alternate Scupper", Tim Niemier (founder of Ocean Kayak) still holds the rights and offers a thermoformed version, http://www.onwaterdesigns.com/portfolio/coyote-design.  It weights just over 40 pounds.
