If you catch a salmon or RF/ling while using multiple rods, it must be released. I guarantee there will be a few wardens & DFG biologists @ da cove this wknd....lookin fer poochers!

It might be helpful to have a list of the 8 fishes we're after with the legal size and quantity restrictions. If anyone in the know could post this, that would be great. :smt001

Thanks,Tim

Check your scorecard and it will have the list of fishey you need to win.  You can always give a hollar out on the radio when you have a questionable fish.  Take the regs to the shitter and it will give you some good reading till Sunday

RockFish (10 max, no size limit)
GreenLing (2 within the RCG 10, 12 inch min)
Cabezon (2 within the RCG 10, 15 inch min)
Ling (2 max, 24 inch limit)
Perch (20 max, No size limit except redtail surfperch=10.5 inches)
Flounder (20 max except for Sanddadbs which have no limit, No size limit?)
Halibut (California halibut minimum is 22 inches, and 3 max..Pacific is 1 and no size limit)
Salmon (Ask Eric... :smt002)

General bag limit of not more than 20 finfish in combination of all species...except for certain exceptions like sand dabs and shiner perch (20 max in addition to 20 other finfish)

Clear as mud right!  :smt002

Like Jimbo said....if in doubt on the water give a holler on the radio and somebody will chim in and help you out...

One note to remember...there was a lot of talk in the off season about the rules for Lings changing down to 22 inches and Cab limit going up to 3 etc..these rules are NOT in place yet and we need to follow the same old 2010 rules in regards to these species until further notice.

I heard quite a few folks asking on opening day down here about the "new" size limit for Lings, and the bottom line is that there is no new size limit yet.

More on that new reg issue:

http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/groundfishcentral/regulations.asp

Quote
NOTE: The effective date for the 2011-2012 groundfish regulations has been POSTPONED. Please check this web page often for updates.

Recently, the Department of Fish and Game (Department) recommended, and the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) adopted 2011–2012 groundfish regulations. The new regulations conform to new federal rules adopted by the Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) earlier this year, and are currently undergoing federal review. The new regulations were expected to go into effect January 2011, but will be postponed due to a delay in the federal rule making process. Please abide by the 2010 regulations, which will continue to be in effect until further notice. The length of the delay is unknown at this time, however the Department of Fish and Game will issue a news release to announce the effective date of the new 2011-2012 regulations as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Jim

I recall someone putting writing the sizes of the fish on their hawg trough at the correct length.  Pretty cool idea if you need to remember them!

I have a little plastic fish identification card for diving and kayaking.   I write the size and limit under each tasty little fishes picture and keep it in a side pocket.  Putting it on the  hog trough is a great idea too.  I may do that to both, of course my fish are so big I rarely have to measure them LOL

Just to confirm, there is no need for a salmon card for fishing Saturday out of Shelter Cove right?  I have a steelhard card, but read the piece about the Trinity, Klamath, etc river mouths.

Sorry for the stupid questions, I get all worked up about this stuff because I hate not knowing exactly what is required!
