Thinkin the bite will be hot! If not, the view usually is!

I gave a quick shot at a Hail-Mary Hali this weekend in Monterey, but not a bite.  :smt012  Hopefully you will have a great day and bring home a few flatties  :smt002

My sources indicate that there has been a decent bite at OP so I wouldn't be surprised if you got some. The water was chocolate milk on sat/sun around Alameda.

I'm planning a halibut hunt on the 23rd, too. I was thinking of ARW or the flats, haven't fished paradise yet. Does it clear up sooner than the east bay spots? Maybe I'll tag along if you don't mind.

I might also try ARW on the 23rd.  I talked to some PBers and they were averaging 1 butt per boat.

Just my experience, ARW gets blown out and muddy first, and stays that way longer. It is pretty much a straight shot across the bay. Paradise is sheltered, so wind usually is not too bad, and the clarity is a little better. OP should be clearing a little too. Should be some striper action going on around there also, and if the bite sucks, load up and go over to Blackies Pasture and hammer down on some shark action.

Paradise it is. Will you be getting/making bait? I'm a swimbait guy about 99% of the time, but I made myself a bait tube the other day and I might give it a try. What time are you planning to launch?

I might have some interest in this. What gear do I need? Never fished for Halibut before. Rod-reel combos?

Good luck, fellas.

I'd join ya, but it's my son's B-day party that day. The big 1!

Lookin' forward to the report.

My halibut approach isn't exactly like most, but it works for me. I mostly use a 6'10" med-heavy shimano Compre baitcaster paired with a curado. Usually spooled with 12-17 lb P-line CXX. This is my swimbait tossing rod for halibut. If I'm gonna drift bait, I use the same setup I use for rockfish/lingcod. Usually bring both plus a little spinning rod for sabiki.

I plan on launching around 8 am. I pick up shiners at Loch L. Rob, it is just like drifting for stripers at the port. I run a 2oz torpedo, and 20# test-4' leader to a 1/0 owner or gama hook. Pretty simple.

How are you transporting/keeping-alive your bait? Was thinking they'd probably live long enough in a 5 gal bucket to get from loch lom to the launch, then dump them in the bait tube. Then again I've never bought shiners.

Well said. Good summary. I would have to add that arw's strong point is an abundance of structure/transitions.
WRT stripers,  the south bay is full of hungry schoolies at the moment! I've seen the bankies hammering them from Eville to SLB over the last few days. Also heard it was wfo on the sf side.

LL shiners will usually make it to Paradise in a 5 gallon bucket.....as long as they're not some of Keith's famous re-sells.
