Salmon Opportunities @ Shelter Cove - views as of 4/7/11

Fish were caught at the Whistle and not too far down on Monday, which was the only good day of the season so far in terms of waves and wind.  Similar to down south, there were quite a few shakers, and some limits were taken of 10-15 pounders and a rumor of an 18 pounder. 

It's DefCon 1 for me here!  I'm watching for yakkable water, decent winds, and a gap in work and family obligations - then I'll be on it.  Right now it looks like it's on for this weekend - Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning is looking pretty good.  Stay tuned, and get in touch if you want to join in.

Be safe dude! Me, Etienne, and Daniel trolled ~8mi on opening day in 9-12ft swells w/15kt wind...and I had a couple moments where I began to ponder "What the F am I doing out here? This is stupid." But then I hooked-up and nearly poopt my wetsuit and I briefly forgave myself for doing something stupid, in my kayak, on the ocean, again. Lost the fish along with my 8oz sinker. Almost got flipped by a breaker and remembered "Ohhhh yeah, this is still stupidly unsafe." And began the long paddle home. It was one of those days that made me reconsider my sanity. I can wait for better weather. So that's what I'll do. Next time.
