New guy on the board with my first post, howdy everyone.  I am an avid fly fisherman, get out about 2 to 3 times each week.  I mainly use a float tube but have decided I want a kayak to cover more water, plus I want to do some ocean fishing.  I have decided on either a the Tarpon 120 or the Ocean Kayak Trident 13, I am leaning more towards the OK since I have heard you can stand up in it as long as you are careful.  Plus I think the little extra length will help me in the surf.  At first I was leaning towards the Tarpon since it is a little cheaper but then I figured I should get what I truly want.  Has anyone else been in my situation on which of the two to pick, here is what my plans are for using it.  I will be fishing the ocean, lakes, ponds, and rivers.  Personally I do not see much of a difference in the two but I was looking for any advice people have had using either kayak.

Thanks for any information.

Scott
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I was leaning toward the T120 when you mentioned fly fishing, but if you want a more ocean worthy boat I'd recommend the T13. I think you'll find that the T120 is a bit more stable, but the T13 is more versatile.

Either way, try to paddle both and decide for yourself what the better fit is. You'll quickly learn that once you narrow it down to two similar boats, it's really more of a matter of personal prefernce and comfort. Personally I'm very comfortable in the Ocean kayaks, while my wife can't sit in mine for more than an hour. Likewise, I'm not a huge fan of her Tarpon, but she loves it. Go figure?

Get a Tarpon 140 instead. It paddles way better than the Trident 13. And since you won't be fishing as much in the salt, the Rodpod isn't necessary. Although, the new hatches on the Tarpons can store a 7.5ft one-piece rod for those times when you do fish salt.

Only you can answer that question....demo,demo,demo. Kayaks are like shoes, if it fits you comfortably, it's meant to be. All the options that the manufacturer offers may seem "cool" but if you can't sit on that kayak comfortably for a few hours, then you just wasted your money.....that's just my opinion.

Just because one is more popular than the other it doesn't mean it's a better choice for you.

Good luck and take your time.

I agree with others when they say Demo them both. The best part of buying a kayak is getting to play Goldilocks. This one is to short this one is to wide this one is juuust right! I run a store in Lodi, and I try not to sell a boat until the person has got their butt in the seat on the water. Hope this helps. I don't sell ether of those lines, but if you want to check out a Cobra I would be happy to let you take one out for a paddle.  :smt001
