For saltwater, Monterey State Beach has everything except multiple camping options nearby. Shelter Cove and Albion both have everything, but they're farther than most people want to drive. Bodega at Doran Park m/b a good option.
For freshwater, I'd suggest the group camps @ O'Neill Forebay, the group camps @ Lake San Antonio, or perhaps Millerton or Don Pedro. Camp Richardson @ Tahoe w/b pretty cool too, but you'll need to make reservations asap.

A little remote as non nature activities go but think Salt Point. best from late Aug thru about 1st week of Oct.

2.5 hr from central bay area,
large campground, (no showers)
great free and scuba diving all around,
4 yak launches and multiple reefs within 10 min.
Salt Point,
Fort Ross,
Stillwater,
Timber Cove

Reef campground and Stillwater campground also near by but each much smaller

If only FW then I suggest Pardee or Mendo, in the Fall - good multi-species lakes with chances for big bass at Pardee.

If looking to make it a challenging tournament, then maybe combo FW/SW over 2 days using AOTY rules.  Camp at Mendo - SW day at Ft Ross or other location, FW at Mendo - or could go to CL or Blue Lakes/Sonoma or other spots for trout.  Anglers could make their own choices to max AOTY scores over 2 days, or could make Sat open to angler choice and then Sunday everyone fishes and parties at Mendo. early Fall.

Bean Hollow - August/ Sept - Camping & lodging at Castanoa

Castanoa is soooooo expensive. IMO, Butano State Park would be a better bet.

I like the idea of Tahoe too.

I think that Tote already said Albion in October. That would be my vote for a great camping spot next to the blue with easy access. If you have a 3 day event you could roll all we do on the kayak over 3 days. 1 day fishing, 1 day spearing and 1 day abalone. This would cover everyone and you could sign up for all 3 or just what you want to do. Awards and potlucks every night? Hell yes!

Another venue that good for the coast , although I am pissed at State Parks for chiming in with MLPA, would be Salt Point State Park. Woodside campground is up out of the wind and has large really nice campsites there.

For freshwater? I havent the foggiest. Although I do think that Tahoe is very limited to the fishing if you want multiple specie. Pardee is cool but expensive also. Mendo would get my vote. 4 excellent specie to hunt. With AOTY points to win.

Albion for SW because it's the only event I've been able to get the family to go to and besides It's just a cool place.

For fresh water, I don't know.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

OK I am a newbie, but I throw it out there, Lake Shasta. Good camping, great Bass fishing, Crappie, and Trout. has the extra benefit of other day trips, lake in Lassen, Baum lake, lake Britton, lake Siskiyou, lake Shastina, or
float the sac river.
Thanks,
Jeff

A lot of good ideas,
Just curious what the real possability of getting 200+ kayak anglers togather for a FREE weekend tournamet would be. I'm sure it would take at least a couple of people to make this happen and would have to have many others passing out fliers in different areas of the state.
YES I GOT A PLAN - but not for this year - to much already going on
