Not trying to scare any one away but thought this could be helpfull! :smt009..............................Lover’s Point Beach has been posted with an advisory because of indications of high bacteria levels found in samples taken Wednesday.

The beach will remain posted until samples indicate that bacteria are at a what state guidelines suggest are safe levels for recreational water contact.

Higher levels of bacteria have been associated with the increased potential risk of illness.

There are various sources of bacteria, such as marine life and other animals, rainfall runoff, storm drains and human activity. Rainfall is associated with increased bacterial levels through man-made and natural storm drains such as culverts, streams and rivers.

It is recommended not to swim in or have contact with storm drain water. Bacteria, viruses, protozoa or chemicals may contaminate storm drain water, and contact with storm drain water may cause illness.

For more information on Monterey Peninsula Beaches please call the Hotline at (800) 347-6363 or visit our web site at www.mtyhd.org.

Little bacteria don't scare me none! I'm way bigger than they are!!

 :smt002 :smt005 :smt044

In my expert opinion (LOL!), we run the risk of getting a mouth full of poo water whenever we go in...especially after rains...

Thanks for the heads up though bro!

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for the post Andy.   Eyes and/or ears infections are serious concerns to me.

I've seen a similar sign at the top of the stairs at SWS the last three times I dove there.   What's the difference at Lovers?

Isn't there a sign on the railing of the steps down to the water at SWS that says contact with water is not recommended? Is it the same warning over at LP? Funny how right next to the sign saying not to come in contact with the water at SWS there is a sign about the fish tagging program.

I think the sign at SWS is from the last advisory which is now over according to the website...maybe they just forgot to take it down??

If you look at the website you can see the different beaches and the results of the water samples...

Looks like Lovers spiked pretty high on the most recent sample...maybe they took the sample right after a seal took a poo?

I wonder if the ocean had these high bacteria levels before humans were living on the coast.  Do you think dick proenekke ever had to deal with high bacteria levels.  For those of  you who are not aware of who Mr. Proenekke is, look him up.  He is the ultimate man.  The scale that we should use to rate our manliness.
