i still think you guys are nuts.... :smt011 :smt011 :smt011 :smt011 :smt011

so here's a question for you engineers in the group.  let's say you want to catch an albacore from a kayak.  and let's says there was a guy that was going to buy a new boat that could actually run a pair of kayaks, two yakkers, and a boat crew of three out 40-50 miles out to the albacore grounds, and let's say that this guy didn't want any scratches in his brand new boat.  dragging the yaks behind the boat may or may not be an option.  how would you mount the kayaks on the boat to not scratch up that pretty new gelcoat?

guys, mull this one over and let's figure something out.  oh, and the boat looks like this.... :smt007 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

Quick ideas...

1.  Put a kayak rack on the hard top... might not work with the antennas up there.

2.  Hang them on their sides from the supports for the hard top.  Might be able to hang two yaks on each side from the looks of it.

3.  Put them sideways across the stanchions on the bow of the boat... probaby get two yaks up there but might obstruct the captains view a bit.

4.  Build  rack for the back of the boat that uses either the fushmount rodholders or the downrigger bases as the connecting point.

Hopefully the "guy with the boat" is crazy enough to transport some crazy kayakers to the Tuna Grounds.

No!!

Cool boat Alan would love to catch an albacore off the yak!!  Or off your new boat for that matter.

P.S. How are those reels working out?

why not!  on some of those greasy flat days, they won't bit, 30, 20, or even 15# string.  i've heard of guys going down to 12# mono to get bit.

GA, dad hasn't had them out fishing yet, but i'm sure they're fine.  it  would be nice to get out for perch, but ski season has kept us busy.

Something like option #4.  I don't think you want them up front as it is bumpier up there.

Is it an outboard boat?  If its inboard or IO, you may be able to drag the yaks with their bows up on your stern and their sterns in the water.

help for option # 4.

http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subpages/TracRac_racks.asp

you could probably mount the tracks in the rod holders.

not cheap tho. but it would be slick.

Beautiful boat Alan.  We just picked up an older 22 walk around in decent shape.  First thing I thought was "where am I gonna mount my yak" =)

I figured something similar to option #4, mounting bar running accross the stern and attached at the downrigger mounts to secure the tail end of the yaks and having the bows secured up on the walkway railing.  Gonna have to experiment a little.

We're gonna try and be outfitted for fishing offshore before the Albies show, I'll keep you guys posted.  We might be able run with you and mothership a small fleet.

signed the papers yesterday, wrote the check for the deposit, they will go through the boat and make sure all the bells and whistles work, we have a sea trial next week and will write the final check pending successful sea trial.  next is the electronics in sausalito, then the canvas in antioch, and then to newark for trailer work.  there is also a new tow vehicle to decide on.  it's down to a 1 ton diesel excursion, a 1 ton v10 gas excursion, and a 3/4 ton suburban 6L v8.  this vehicle has to do double duty dragging the kids up to tahoe to ski.

all of this is to get the boat ready to cruise.  then i have to get it ready to fish.  THEN i have to find room for you guys!

kz, what's "waf?"

chuck, i think will go by the number of posts!!!!!!   :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005
