If you're serious about the Gas it's pretty easy, find your gas meter, find the line coming up out of the ground, shortly after it comes up out of the ground it will have a 1/4 turn cock valve, go to the hardware store and get a wrench designed just for that,  It's a flat piece of steel about 12-18 inches with a slot cut in it to fit the cock valve. A 12" crescent wrench works too.

Of course I get the feeling with your welding experience you might just be trying to get the gas to quit from some other area, then yeah I think keeping the beans in the emergency kit to a minimum would be a good Idea.

But back to the gas, the gas flow is inline with the bar on the cock valve, so open is inline with the pipe and crossways in closed, hence 1/4 turn from on to off.

I brought the subject up to my Wife a few months ago, about getting our survival cache together. Her reply was...."Honey we got plenty of guns, we'll just take what we want."

I laughed my ass off over that one...........Seriously though, we all should take what ever steps we feel necessary to insure our safety and the safety of our loved ones.

For those of you working on putting together a cache don't forget the T.P.

IMHO, the best thing about these threads, is that they get people thinking. One thing I'd not seen mentioned, is that in a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI situtuation, people are going to be a lot better off when resources, knowledge and skills are pooled. Who are your disaster buddies?

We set up a 2500 gallon water tank, and we have a pantry area for emergency supplies. There's always hot sauce & ketchup in there in case we have to "eat squirrels". :smt044

Given that most of us work during the day or are away from home regularly, the emergency meeting place is a good idea. My wife & I have one chosen between our workplaces.

I'm not sure if it has already been mentioned, but if you have pets try to include some of their food/meds in the emergency supplies too.

Your wife should have comfortable running shoes in the trunk of her car. Imagine trying to walk home in business heels. All of your vehicles should have a small backpack with jacket, shoes, etc.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

Entirely different from what I have been informed in the past.
