Shaky video comes naturally

Sturgeon has so far, for me, been entirely about imagination ...

What am I supposed to do with the sharpie?   :smt064

See you there ...

The one with the most fish  :smt002

I've never been to Dumbo(arton?) so I don't know how to compare.

Glad to leave the decision to you.

I'm not expecting much but I know I don't want to stay at home another Saturday and put up christmas lights.  West delta has too much boat traffic right now and I don't feel like playing bumper boats.

Ben:
Have fun and wishing you luck.  I'm gonna have to do some household chores and shuttle my kids around, so can't go.  Wife vetoed it at the last minute.

Just a heads up...There is a new bait shop that opened up at the corner of Jarvis Ave and Haley St in Newark.  Its probably less than a mile or just a mile from the Entrance to the Don Edwards wildlife refuge (the place you drive through to get to the Dumbarton pier)  They dont have much, but what they to have is some frozen bait, LIVE ghost shrimp and Sturgeon and Striper type tackle.  Its a crappy half party supply store half dollar store half bait shop, but they have live shrimp.  I live about 2 miles from the entrance, maybe one day I'll get out there with you guys.

About 15-16 or so years ago we fished off a PB (at night) in between the Dumbarton and the Train bridge (closer to the Dumbarton) in the channel out there and slayed em.  I caught a 70".  There is a Polaroid picture of me and fish somewhere.  So they are not just Imagination!  But I know, until I find that pic, it never happened :smt044.  Take care fellas.  Maybe I'll join you out there one of these days.

Do you launch from the rocks near the pier or do you take the slough out?   The slough seems like and awful long paddle and you really have to time the tide perfectly, otherwise you get stuck in the middle of nowhere. i only live a few miles from there and have always wanted to try it because I've seen some big fish brought out.
The perfect scenerio would be for us to find someone with a boat to give a bunch of us a tow from Redwood City

launch from the right side beach near the base of the pier facing the bridge.  still have to time the tides right or the landing is out of the water and you're mucking your way home.  thats why i'm trying to get off around 3:30, so there's still water to tread through.  of course if i catch and release 3 sturgeon before 11am i'll go home then  :smt005.  the tides there are absolutely ripping, so if you don't get moving by the end of slack, its really difficult to head south towards the trestle against the outgoing.  earlier this year we were there on a 9 foot swing and it was pretty manageable, i held with a 8lb anchor without issue.

on the way out, i shoot the pier pilings if there's no fisherman on top, if there is i make the paddle all the way out and around as a courtesy.

it really is one of the easiest launches in the area, less than 100 feet to the water at high tide.  the reason i dont want to launch from alviso is the same reason you dont want to launch from newark slough, at a big minus its a mudfest, probably worse than at china camp.  as much fun as playing in the mud is, i really prefer not to have to wash 40lbs of mud off myself and my yak.

i prefer to launch from the fremont side since i'm cheap and dont want to pay the bridge toll.  its a pretty easy paddle if you have the tide to your back, let the incoming wash you south, and the outgoing bring you back towards the bridge...

Ben, what type of anchor do you have?

I was going to upgrade my 3#+2# cannons... but all I found was a 10# mushroom anchor. It didn't look like it would dig in well. Maybe I'll just get some more cannon balls  :smt003
