I have heard people say that ling will be open year round for divers starting in 2011 and the minimum size will be reduced to 22". I picked up the new regs booklet from Spoertsmans Warehouse yesterday. The booklet still shows minimum size as 24" and Lings still close Dec 1st. Does anyone know anything different?

I'd go with what the regs say but I know you already know that. :smt002   Maybe the upcoming supplement will have the change.

The books were likely printed and distributed way before the council adopted the regulations in October. Website always has the most updated info, you can call the # at the bottom to verify......but I will be blasting lings for new years.

I tried hunting around on the internet but could not find anything that gave any details.

I wouldn't, at least not yet. I can't find anything anywhere that says year round or 22''. Only that its been considered as a change

That's cool news. I have speared exactly one ling with my pole spear, through the end of the tail and managed to grab him. Steven and I stared at him for a few minutes before decided to cut him loose, he was like 22.5, very much alive and zipped off into the blue. Next time he's MINE!

The newly-adopted regs go into effect in early March each year. Then they're usually applied once that season begins.
So I suspect lingcod will not be shootable until April 1 2011 (tho I guess it's possible early March at the soonest). But we'll be able to shoot em through Dec 31st!

Any volunteers to contact DFG and ask them? I'm in school all day tomorrow.
