I went with dr george simon from LASIK vision centers a few years back. great results, no problems since. I have had two friends do it also with him, I paid about $2500, my coworkers wife did hers a few months ago for about $4000 there as well. she will be happy with the procedure... best thing since sliced bread! good luck!

I don't know what area you live in. The wife and I had our eyes done a couple years ago. Paid $4,000 for each of us. Have had good results so far. I just wish I had it done years earlier. Shop around until you are very comfortable with the doctor you choose.

Here's where we had ours done in Sacramento:

I dunno how the competition is here up in Nor Cal, but my gf recently got hers done a couple months back and paid around $1500 for both eyes down in Los Angeles. I was pretty concerned because the price seemed pretty low, esp with the saying "you get what you pay for." However, my old college roommate and his wife both got it done by the same place, so it kinda eased my concerns. All three haven't had any problems, and all are very satisfied :D

Maybe it may be worth a trip down there, save decent amount. And hell, why not make a lil vacation trip down and do some yak fishing down there!! :D

The market in LA for cosmetic surgery is so fierce that that is the going rate in many places.
I was concerned about quality as well, but don't have those concerns after doing some research.  I'm looking to do the same in LA, and maybe visit La Jolla for some YT action.   :smt003

I never thought about going down there for lasik, but if Yellow tail might be involved?????  Thanks for all the advice.  Im calling around and found a few good doctors up here.  i think its like buying a yak, you really just have to test drive em, otherwise you get caught up in the pros and cons on paper.  YT in lajolla huh???  :smt044  :smt044  :smt044

my sister's opthal MD was the same guy who lazed Tiger Woods.  She was severely near sighted, something over 6 diopters and only paid $4K.  It does sound cheaper down So Cal.

Jonathon,
I would do that myself. Actually, that is what I'll do whenever I do get lasik lol. When my gf got it done, I was already thinking about ways I could use the savings from lasik as reason to take a lil YT outing :P

Everyone who's considering lasik should do this!! :D

My gf got it done last week. Thanks for all the tips. I ended up going to the ellis eye center in El cerrito.  It got bad reviews for service and customer care, but there's no medical lawsuits that I could find :smt003 They bargained with me and I got both eyes done with a lifetime warranty for $2000. She had terrible eyesight, and one week after lasik she has 20/20 in the left, 20/25 in the right.   :smt003 Its really incredible, it is a 10 min procedure, and she had no pain, no swelling, nothing. I recomend him, the service is a little bad, and you have to bargain.  Pay them in cash and play hardball. They wanted 7800, and I just laughed.  :smt005

This conversation brings a couple things into my consciousness...
1 = "don't laze me bro!"
2 = the commercial that replays on KNBR all day, featuring the 49ers Parys Haralson's quote about "wearing contact lenses, my eyes felt like two goats in a pepper patch!" lol
3 = Can you get Lasik if you have astigmatism? (as opposed to near-sighted, far-sighted, pepper-patched, etc)

OK I just booked another LASIK evaluation with Ellis' team.  interesting that he's an EE that went to med school.  Since i've got three or four opthals working against each other on this procedure, i'll try the old laugh in their face routine, when they hit me with the initial price.    :smt005

Martin -

Don't know if I would go with that guy http://lasikcomplications.com/tiger-woods.htm. Maybe the poor vision caused his marital problems.  :smt005 Complications can be significant and us old guys don't care that much about appearance so bring on the bifocals.  :smt005
