BigYak strikes again! AKA I think SinCoast owes me some beer!!!!

wait you shot a 4 inch ling! Man that musta been a hard shot. Not much to aim at. Big yakin' fool!

So PK threw down the gauntlet that he could catch a bigger fish from the rocks than I could shoot....little friendly wager and a double can of RockStar gave me some added motivation to go hunting to prove him wrong!!
 
Went down to SWS with Porky and the seas were just as big as last weekend...paddled out on the BigYak and were gonna anchor up but realized the swells would probably rip our anchors, so beached on a side beach and then swam out to where we wanted to hunt.

Viz was killer (at least 20 feet in spots) and even though the surge was strong, it was still really nice diving...saw a lot of suspended baby blacks, blues and perch...a few nice hidden abalone, and some chunky greenlings laughing at my poor aim!!  

I came across a FAT grassy that I thought was a mini-midget Ling at first it was so thick!! Missed a gimme shot cuz I suck, and he swam just a few feet and then stopped...thought maybe I had injured him so dropped the gun, pulled the knife and dove down to try and pull a Rambo and stab him!!  Yeah...surprise, surprise he laughed at me and swam away...should've just reloaded and nailed him!!
 

Then came across a few smallish kelpies that I shot to make sure I had dinner and so if PK skunked I could still win my beer!! After I finished threading the last one on my floatline I realized my light had somehow fallen off my wrist!!   Thought to myself...there goes my chance of finding a Ling, but I might as well keep on hunting and looking in holes anyway...

Five minutes later I spot a BIG Ling from the surface just chilling wedged in a v-shaped crack between two boulders!!! Can see he is long and fat and my heart starts hammering!! Dive down and line up a shot and nail him!!!!!! He EXPLODES and I have no clue how well he is shot, so tackle him underwater and grab him by the gills!! See the slip tip is all the way through and realize he is mine, let out a yell underwater and bring him up to the surface!!!!
 

Swim back to Porky and we both goggle at the size of the lunker!!! Porky is having some issues with his mask so he heads in shortly...on the way back in I see a Black and Yellow swim in a hole and go to call Porky to come shoot it, but he is almost to the beach so I go down and shoot him...head-on, right through the mouth and out the tail...RockFish Kebab!!    

Chill at the side beach for awhile and realize that all three of my biggest Lings have come at SWS, with Porky, and on the BigYak...that little boat has some GOOD MoJo!!!  

THANK YOU to Porky for diving with me and sharing this special day....final stats on the fish, 34.25 inches and 16 pounds...my personal best and about as big a fish as I could imagine wanting/needing!! Got ALL the inlaws in town so tomorrow is gonna be Ling filets and FishHead soup while we watch the Giants win in Texas and the Saints beat the Steelers!!!

Also....shout out to BlackAbKing for the advice on being patient and persistent and waiting until I knew for sure that the fish was big enough to take....you were right and I really appreciate it bro!!  



PK, I almost hope you got a bigger fish off the rocks...that would be AWESOME!!!!!!!!
