Weather looks doable!  I was at pacifica pier for the opener last year and the pier itself was rockin - literally.  Grand opening was at 3:30 and grand closing was at 4:30 because of 16ft swells.  :smt012

Thinking of bringing beers/hard stuff, tijuana dogs (think socal baking pan style), pulled pork nachos and wsb surprise.  I'll be there 7-8pm on Friday in a tan element w/yellow hobie on top and will try to help setup the staging area.  As for fishing, I hope to drop at midnight... if not, I'll snare from the s. jetty instead.

I'm really looking forward to this and I'll see everyone there!  :smt006

I'll be looking for ya Nudling!  I'm with ya if for some reason midnight is a no-go, I'll get my snare on with ya.  I'm the Black Nissan Frontier w/ yellow Trident here.  Im gonna bring Beers and Ribs, and probably breakfast stuff for the morning.  I'm probably going to get there around noon - early afternoon Friday.  Anyone down for some surf perchin?  If I can get a poke pole in service by then I'm going to bring that too.  Cant wait! :smt026

Hello everybody,
I've been lurking on this board for some time and this is my first post.  I'm getting pretty excited about this event.  With all the different groups going, it looks like it'll be one giant party.  I'll be there about 3pm on Friday in my grey RX300 with a blue T140 & a red sea kayak on top.  I'm looking forward to meeting all of you & doing some surf perching, or sand dabbing, or maybe even rock fishing off the jetty in addition to the crabbing.

I have a few questions though.
  • I read somewhere about the traps needing cotton rings that will rot so crabs can escape in the event of a lost pot.  The TR102W's don't seem to be set up for this.  What do you all recommend, or is this even a requirement?
  • The midnight drop sounds very intriguing.  I've done a lot of midnight paddling but only in the sloughs around San Mateo, and never really around any boat traffic.  What kind of lights are necessary?
  • I got some salmon heads to use as bait, but the guy at OPS said my traps would get torn up by sea lions if I used them.  Is this true?

TIA,
Bryan

I can't remember all your car make/model/colors.   :smt001

I'm just gonna hope someone sees my yak on the roof rack and say hello - and keep my radio on to Ch. 69 for the first 10 minutes of each hour (to conserve battery).

Damn, I wish I had an NCKA sweatshirt for times like these.  If one of the mods have them for sale and will be at the event, I'd be interested.

Keeping an eye out on the conditions, so far not looiking good for Sat.  Sunday looking much more reasonable though.

Al

I think it looks doable for HMB. Pilar Point should take some of the wind. 6-7' west swell would not be good for a surf launch but for HMB crabbing should be OK. Maybe some extra weight in the trap to keep it from walking.

Saturday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming NW 5 to 9 kt in the afternoon. A slight chance of rain. W swell 6 to 7 ft. Waves 6 to 7 ft.

For newbies might not be good tho...  :smt011

Whats the average depth of where the traps are dropped?  Wondering how much line you need on the traps?  Does anyone know if someone has tried scuba there?
