Coastside grill crew will be hosting a BYO party in the upper parking lot Friday night 11/5.

Im in for car camping Friday night.  Around what time is everyone planning to show up?  Since I've never been to an event here I'm wondering if I'm looking at the right places.

Thanks for the help guys.  I want to be able to find my fellow yakers!

SB,
You got it right. The 3rd park option is the lower lot to the extreme left of HMBK passed the party boats check in offices just below the two green bushes in your map/picture. I've spent several nights there without problem.
I plan to be there by 8pm in an old Dodge Astro RV with blue Tarpon 140 at the back. CH69 probably would be our best way for contact.
See ya.

Negative, that lot is a parking permit lot only. It's reserved for all the live-aboards in the Harbor.

The HMB Kayak Co. parking lot is the dirt lot to the right. It's actually not open to the public - but only used as a overflow parking area (or organized kayak fishing Tournaments between NCKA and HMB Kayak Co. :smt002)

SB,
I'll go with Mooch input since he's HMB local. So I will see you at the upper lot first. Hopefully, there's still a place. I will also check the lower parking lot. Mooch is right as to "Parking Permit Required" in the section closed to the boat yard. As far as I know but this could change is that the section closed to the street is open parking.
I'll let you know when I see you there.

I don't think I can make it, but do us all a favor, if you guys can...

Stop by and give the guys at HMB Kayak a crab or two.  They were VERY cool to me/us last time and super appreciative of the gift....

Always good to grease the skids a little.

Eric,
Will do that.
I agree with you. A little greasing will make the relationship lasts.

I may join everyone on Saturday morning with my kayak.  Won't have any crab traps with me, since I will have my daughter with me.  I will be bringing her to watch the crabs as they come in and to go out on my kayak with me in the harbor.  Looks like it will be a fun day.

I fished the crab opener at Bodega Bay the last 10 years except
last year ( didn't get invited by the guy with the boat). They always put the pots out on friday. I think it's pretty common up there (very busy ramp). Maybe it's different at PPH.
I don't think the surfers lot across the highway is cool. One morning I saw a harbormaster putting a ticket on a car there. It might have been because it was there for a few days though. And he was a real go getter (he's a SF cop now).
BTW, I might have saved my buddy with the boat at BB last year.I knew he never listens to swell reports, and he always takes that short cut 1st right out of the harbor. I called him on thursday and he was on his way up. I told him it was 15' 15 secs., so he went in and talked to the HM at Spud Point. They went home.

What's the low-down on traps? Is the promar with escape rings the popular choice? Chances of buying a couple on the quick-quick?

Bass Pro and Outdoor Pro both have traps in stock from what I heard/saw.  I'm going to use my 3 TR101's (smaller) and have a TR102 if anyone wants to use it.  Also have a hoop or two if anyone wants to borrow too!

I am going to be there.  2004 Crewcab red Chevy with a popup slide in camper.  I am bringing the boat and 5 danielson pots.  I have a couple Promar hoops if someone on a yak wants to borrow. They open up lots of the area for camping that is normally not open.  Sometimes the commercial crab pots are in the way.  If you need a mothership of beer and snacks I may be available.  Since wife is in Houston, I will be there early Friday.  I may toss the Red Hobie on top if need to stay in the harbor due to heavy seas.
