I'll be renting out Kwikfish for Saturday. I'm taking deposits no later than Thursday evening, Kwikfish must be returned by Saturday @ 4pm....lol, jk, can't you guys tell I've been waiting to get back into the Salmon game  :smt044 :smt044

K15's Sac river only, K14-K13 American/Feather river.  Fast water-k13, slow water k-14. Sunny -  chart/silver or orange/silver. Cloudy - the gold's are killer, especially the chart/gold k14. The shallower/clearer the water, stick with more color than flash. Believe it or not I've hooked up on all but the white/pink k14. 2003 was a good year... :smt003

My favorite AR colors have been the solid white/chart and chart/silver k13.  Just flat lining behind the boat, no weight or anything. Back in 2005 I was hooking up almost every outing. 2010 might be a different story...

I kept my tackle selection to Kfish only.  I never did any good or bothered to take up trolling spinners or other lures for that matter.  I've done well drifting bait but when it comes to tackle, the kfish have always been my go to lures and have never let me down.  Between 2000 and 2006, Salmon fishing became a science...pretty amazing how color selection could really turn a bad day into a full blow slayfest. If it wasn't for the decline in #'s and season closure my SN would be salmon_slayer instead of striper_slayer  :smt003.

Plus you can't go wrong when Wally World has them on sale for $2.99 each!!!

I'm down for a launch/chill out of Howe.  Never launched there so a pre-dawn meet-up would be awesome for me.  I'll throw some steelhead gear in my box just in case - and I'm with Amir - if it's crazy out there, I'll pull out and hit it in November.  Hell, I'll just head over to the port on Saturday if it's too out of control.  This is my only day to get out this week, so I may fish all day.

Right now most of the weather info I'm seeing is 20-30% chance of showers, mostly in the evening.  So we might stay dry in the a.m. fellas.  We're looking at a 7:27 sunrise, so any reason to be out there before 6:00?

Yes there is a reason to be out there a lil earlier...cause the amount of time it takes to take down your yak, load it up, park, and then paddle to wherever your going takes some time trust me and I personally dont wanna anchor behind a doz. jet or guide boats! So if sunrise is at 7:27 then ill be launching, yes launching, by 630 or so! I think they open the gates at 600... Btw fellas, when u pull in at howe, dont worry about launching from the pave ramp. Theres a lil beach actually to the left of the ramp and parking right there which will make for a whole lot easier launch and out of the way from the Boaters! Thats where i recommend we all should launch and park! You"ll see my truck there first Im sure, Lifted single cab toyota pickup. And please dont forget your VHF guys! And bring an anchor too if u have one....I was just out there 2nite makin bait and trying for some stripers and the water clarity is definelty dirtier from last week...and I DID NOT see or notice as many rollers in the area ive been fishin! the last 3 weeks ive seen lot of salmon rolling and coming up but this week not as much...that last storm definelty did somthing! Im gonna fish for stripers and salmon and bring some steelhead gear as well for backup! If it sucks out there over the weekend, ill just fish it during the week before or after work and keep the weekends for further destinations!...im down to hit the port on sunday if sat. is a big flop! fw

nice, salmon are here
we'll fish the waters, deep, clear
yaks full of salmon, nice

OK now that the beatdown of the Rangers is complete in S.F. I can get back to the AR salmon opener!

Anyone up for a drift? Starting at Howe or Watt and pulling out at Paradise or...

I don't have an anchor so I think I'll just be finding holes and working them with the fly rod. Or finding good yak parking here and there and working the water.

Will need to have a shuttle car parked wherever we take out.

Def. down to meet/launch at Howe, although since I won't be anchoring a little daylight wouldn't hurt me. I don't think I want to try and drift through any snags, rapids, etc. in total darkness!

Plus with lures/flies I think the fish will need to see a little.

Anybody?

I think a drift would be great - but with the weather I'm not sure everyone will want to be on the same schedule.  A good place to pull out might be the skatepark at 28th in order to avoid all the madness at the mouth.  Just a thought.

I do have a QRAS though so if I find a nice little channel, I'd like to be able to drop anchor and see what happens.  I'm open either way - just stoked to be fishing for salmon.

three kwikfish sardine wrapped and juiced and ready to go.

filleted out a few sardines last night, cut them into the right size and brined them in some pro cure sardine juice for refreshing on the water.

picking up a few live crawdads today from 99 ranch to add a little more scent (tail meat) to the wraps when i hit the water (old trick i learned from an old guide). got enough sardine pro cure juice, crawdad gel, and random stuff like that to be ready to go. may just run two rods, we'll see how i feel tomorrow. got a box of spinners ready in case i want to throw some hardware.

cleaned up and lubed up my two reels, spooled and set up.  i'll be on my brand new kayak tomorrow so im hoping it all goes to plan, we'll see how well it works without a FF.
