Savage Love at Buck's Landing 01/08/06

Lots of love for Fred "Savage" today at the Buck's Landing.  After missing out on the action Saturday with the Erik and the boyz, Fred and I decided to go Sunday to see if the sturgeon bite at the "honey hole" was still red hot.  Well.... I'll let Fred tell you his epic story while I provide the images.

I guess landing a 66 inch/57lb sturgeon wasn't for Fred, so he followed it up with this fat 32 inch/15lb striper.

Watch out Erik the "Sturgeon King".... because here comes Freddie the "Sturgeon-Striper Combo King"

I saw the last photo in the "Big Fish Photo's" first and wondered why that poor sturgie's head looked lumpy and was bleeding. I guess it was "punished" "Savagely"!

My cell phone rang late in the afternoon yesterday and I couldn't get to it in time... now I know who probably called.

That's a heck of a haul!  I always wondered how a sturgeon would be hauled on a prowler... I guess now I know. 

This ain't no coincidence either... Savage is a great fisherman... plus he was fishing next to Chuck so he had everything going for him.

It is pretty darned unbelieveable that "the spot" produced legal sturgeon three trips in a row.

Like I told the folks on the Fishsniffer board... I'll be happy to show anyone "the spot" who wants to follow me and fish in a kayak.  No takers from that board yet. 

Too bad the 2006 fish tourney pool isn't open yet... maybe we can vote to grandfather in some of these early year fish for guys who obviously are intending to join the pool.  Fred may have the sturgeon and striper pot winner in one trip!

Big Bummer!
I was out there fishing when Chuck and Savage launched. I was north east of Bucks hanging out around a couple party boats. I didn't spot them until they were about 1/2 a mile away. I pulled everything up and started following. I eventually gave up because I didn't know if it was fishing kayaks or just somebody out for a paddle. I ended up out near the pumphouse but didn't catch anything.

As for me... I didn't get totally skunked.  I caught about half-a-dozen shaker stripers and scored "little" dino love too yesterday (literally).  Just two minutes before Freddie, caught the big one, I landed this rare green sturgeon that was only about 30" long.  That little guy had razor sharp scutes and needed to be handled with caution.  Right before releasing it, I gave him a kiss on his poiinty little snout for luck and asked him to call his bigger cousins into the area.  I guess it worked!

Steve... actually, I've only caught two sturgeon in my whole life and they were both these rare little guys.  What the heck are the chances of that!!! 
I'm still looking for my first legal dino.... and I'm on a mission to land one this year.
Freddie says, with my luck, it'll probably be some 10ft oversized monster that I can't keep.
