Freddie says, with my luck, it'll probably be some 10ft oversized monster that I can't keep. :smt012

That's funny!!!  Probably true but I want to be there to watch it.

Looks like the "punisher" did an outstanding job subduing the fish.  How hard of a pummeling did it require?   Also looks like you guys were pretty well prepared for a money shot with your little "Savage Love" newspaper clipping.  That's a great picture.

Chuck... did you take some fish home for Jerky?

Believe me... the punisher I made did it's job.  It's a must for big dinos.  Thanks for designing it.  It only took four whacks to do in that big guy.  As for jerky meat, Freddie left me with most of it to smoke up this week.  My Big Chief smoker will be working overtime.  :smt003

As for that newspaper clipping, it came out of the page that lined the bottom of the box ghost shrimp.  It guess it was one of free adult newspapers.  Freddie noticed it when he opened the box.  It turned out to be a foreshadowing of good things to come -- just like a fortune cookie.

Way to go guys, nice fish Fred.

Chuck, you could be a successful guide seeing how whenever you go out, someone catches a sturgeon.  :smt003

Thanks, James.... but who would pay a guide who's never even landed their own legal dino.  :smt009
I think I hold the record for the most assists.  At least, my snare and new punisher is seeing some action. :smt002
However, I must give Freddie the credit for doing a masterful job of fighting and landing that beast.

awesome fish. Once again Freddie proves to be the SAVAGE. I am getting the blues reading about all these big fish. Buying a house and moving has taken all my time up since Freddie and I's Thanksgiving day outing. Lack of fishing depression is setting in. I will be needing a fix soon.

Well guys. Sorry for the late post but, I've been having techincal difficulties and I was busy eating way too much Ahi and sturgy at Stuies last night to bother with his computer. So here goes.

Chuck and I fish last Saturday with no luck. After we heard how well everybody did out at Buck's, we were beside ourselves. DAMN!!! That night, I called Chuck to see if he'd be able to go. In his words, "It's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission." With that said... game on. I arrived at Chuck's and we called around looking for the "candy". After calling about 4 or 5 baitshops... we scored at a little hole in the wall in Oakland. Man, that part of town is sketch. I was kind of surprised to see that all our gear was still on my truck after spending about 10 minutes in the baitshop. Anyways, we arrived at the launch sight in no particular hurry. We noticed a bunch of PB'ers out at Rat Rock and over by the Pump House. There were also a bunch of shore casters fishing from the outlook area. We launched and paddled out. I was thinking that all those PB'ers were out by Rat Rock for a reason, but, Chuck paddled straight for the honey hole. I couldn't have paid for a better guided trip. I was pretty naked out there. All I had was a yak, a rod, some tackle, a borrowed anchor and some bait. I had no snare, no Punisher, no extra rope, no seat. Hell, Chuck even provided lunch for me. Like I said before, I couldn't pay for a better guided trip. Thanks again Chuck. Anyways, we paddle a ways and Chuck says, "We're here." The honey hole... we drop anchor and start to fish. Things go pretty slow for a while. Chuck gets a hit every now and again... nothing but some small schoolies. I get a couple of hits but nothing sticks. Chuck mentions that the time is about right for the action to start. Shortly after, he starts the homerun derby off by landing a rare green sturgeon. Not two minutes after that... I'm swinging for the fences... HOME RUN BABY!!!  This thing starts peeling line off my reel like crazy. I start to mess around with my anchor release and Chuck is telling me... "don't unbutton unless it's absolutely neccessary." It was and I was off. Chuck waves bye bye to me as the fish takes me away. I'm yelling back to him... "I may need some help with this... no snare, no punisher, no joke..." So, Chuck follows behind as the fight begins. I must admit that I was a little disappointed by the length of the battle. The fish peeled line fast but, I was able to gain on it fast too. After about 10 minutes... it was over. The fish was subdued in the water. I got the snare over and cinched it down. Chuck helped by getting a tail rope secured and one heave later. The beast was on my lap. Note to self: wear long anything next time. My legs were covered with this stinky slim from the fish. I tied off the tail rope and Chuck hands me the Punisher. Time for some Savage Love. BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!! Game over... The beast was done. Yeah BABY!!! I'm a little guy and there wasn't a whole lot of room for the both of us on the Prowler. So, I hog tied the dino and we were off. We get back to our anchors and proceeded to fish some more. There was still a lot of prime fishing time left. A little while later, I'm swinging for the fences again. I knew right away that it wasn't a sturgeon though. But, it felt nice... a nice striper. I thought about unbuttoning from my anchor again because this fish was going everywhere and I didn't want to lose it in my anchor line. Chuck just reminds me about the heavy line that I have on and hhhheeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvvvveee. I just horsed that fish away from the line and right to the boat. My gaff sucks. It's pretty dull and it took me a few swipes to get a good stike. It didn't matter though. The fish was hooked good and deep. Once onboard, I proceed to release somemore Savage Love on it. One whack and the striper's skull was crushed. Done... And we still have some time to fish. But, that was pretty much the end of the homerun derby. Things slowed down and we packed it in. We paddled in with big smiles on our faces. Chuck leads me over to the shore casters for some glory time. I guess we didn't impress one guy who said that the fish wasn't that big. But, once we got on shore and untied it... Yeah BABY!!! Some guys run down to get a closer look at out catch. It's all good. Hey, does anybody know how to get that crap mud off of clothes? My shorts were stained pretty good by it. No biggie though. Anyways, we packed it in. All in all, I had 4 hits with 2 homers. Not bad I guess. I say beginners luck though. I've got a long way to go before I reach King status like Erik, but, I've got a great start. We weigh, measure and clean the fish at Chuck's place. Striper was 32" and 15lbs. Sturgeon was 66" and 57lbs. Not bad. I can't wait to get back out there. I left most of the fish at Chuck's so he can smoke it up. After trying it though, I may have to call him up and get some more. That stuff is good, really good. A lot of people tell me that it stinks and tastes like mud. I think that they didn't take care of their catch properly or something... sturgeon tastes great. Oh yeah, and the striper wasn't bad either. Good stuff... Thanks again Chuck for an epic trip. I can't wait to release some Savage Love again...

Alright Freddie!  Thanks for the Narrative.  I was looking forward to that.  I was wondering what you guys were doing playing in the mud... bunch of showoffs.  :smt002  It's funny how much bigger they look when you're holding them up as opposed to laying on the yak.

Another Norcal Kayak Angler struck with sturgeon fever... gotta love it.
