I read on the DFG website that you must use barbless circle hooks if you have salmon on board.  So, this means that if we switch to rockfish or come back inside the bay for halibut we must still use barbless circles? Please give your opinion/knowledge on this matter....thanks!

I forget the regs/consensus but it has been discussed ad nauseam here.  You might try the search function.

Yes if you have a salmon in possession, you must use single barbless hooks (and they gotta be barbless circles if using bait)

Yes...unless you're trolling for buts, in which case you may use a barbless J hook (or 2 but they must be hard tied and no more than 5" apart).  For rockies swap the hooks on your iron from treble to barbless J. And it must not be tuesday or wednesday.....also don't forget to rub your belly and pat your head while hopping one foot, I hear DFG is enforcing that one now  :smt001

The way I read the regulations is you only need to use circle hooks if your mooching ( or not under power or forward motion ) Barbless hooks are a must if you have a salmon on board. It is a question if you have a limit of salmon that they can say you are still salmon fishing. That would probably be for a judge to decide. Either have no salmon on board or have your limit. I could be wrong but I think the judge would have the final say.
