Nice pic-filled report!
I am totally stoked that you guys got rewarded for your efforts.

I don't quite get why anyone would get so protective of a spot where I've seen guys launch zodiacs. It's not a secret spot by any stretch. & I think your crew size was totally appropriate. It's not as if you had 20 people with you.

Not everyone is keen with me posting hookups to fish that section of the coast.  I have fished/surfed San Mateo and Santa Cruz for 20 years, and I understand why people are protective of their favorite spots.  In that regard, I try to put forth a spirit of conservation and stewardship for the ocean with those I fish with.  Before my friends bought kayaks, I came on this board to find people to fish with, and fortunately found a few like Dustin and Obkook.  I am just trying to keep karma rolling.  To balance concerns, I’m going to continue to post hookups, but I will be less specific about where I am fishing.

If people have problems with you posting hook-ups ....I say "EF THEM". It's your choice. NCKA was organized to get like minded people together. If "these people" have problems with that, then why even bother being a part of this community?  :smt011

Is sharing every fishing spot mandatory for being part of the community?  If you don't......are you really not welcome here?  Just curious....you know I give up everything  :smt001

nicely done.... post if you want. don't if don't want. But no need to give someone crap for doing it. I recall there was a guy on the board last summer with the 'my way IS the way' attitude. I wonder what happened to him  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

NO.....BUT IT'S YOUR CHOICE to do so. And like EWB said "no one should be given crap for doing so"

*If you can keep your "secret spot" a secret....then I'M REALLY / TRULY IMPRESSED  :smt120  It does not take a genious to drive along Hwy 1 and find a kayak launch spot.....let alone google earth it  :smt011 Give me an EFFING BREAK!!!!

I agree completely....but somewhere along the line we lost the will to put the time in to find these spots, stare at it for an hour deciding if its doable, charging into the unknown.  I also think that in general we have less respect for stuff we don't work for....then we get the posts about guys treating spots like a grocery store cause someone took em out and showed it to em.

You know where this debate always ends....I just think we should always use some discretion when posting and I can see why not everyone is jazzed about seeing some reports....and this goes for alot of places not just San Mateo.

then we get the posts about guys treating spots like a grocery store cause someone took em out and showed it to em.

again, it's choice and as far as people treating it like a grocery store...it's again choice. The only Win situation is to preach the Gospel of Fishunter of catch and release and hope for the best.....but we all know that's not always gonna work. People who like to eat fish will do what they can (hopefully within the law) and take advantage of what the the ocean has to offer. My only suggestion is to lower the limits....maybe 1 ling, 1 cab and 4 rockfish?????
But that's just me......

Why is that the only Win option?  It seems to me like we could opt out of advertising the exact location and attracting so much attention....from everyone that reads these reports (I don't believe the 10 post minimum really did much to prevent the non-contributors from viewing and continuing with the non-contributions).

I'll end the hijack and start another thread....my apologies mcag.

i second mooch's comments about people trying to protect parts of the ocean that they do not own to themselves. i never hesitate to give advice to anyone who wants to fish anywhere i have had experience because i know how much fun it could be. perhaps these people who want to know have lived near a certain place for a long time and never thought about fishing there and this would show people how accessible fishing really is for those who are inexperienced.

fishing is something that should be shared, it beats buying fish from the market and does not support commercial fisheries. its fresher too.

this is only my feelings but those who have fished a lot can probably relate that when you share your fishing experience with a good report and tips you never know if this person will be taking their kids or friends there and sharing an even more memorable experience.

i dont think there are any secrets about fishing because just because 100 people hit up the same spot it does not mean the fish will still take the hook.

experience, share and enjoy, thats what life is about. we are in it to have a good time and that should be the focus of the sport.

i have even posted gps coords for places i caught fish and have gone back to catch more. i think its good karma to share and i have never been let down after doing so.
