Great morning on the water - the weather was perfect.  Fishing was slow until the sun really came out but it also took us a while to get to our spots.  My buddy landed a 7-8 lb striper and shortly after a good size cat.  He threw back to the same spot and got hit again and called me over.  For the next hour or so we took turns circling around each other on a perfect drift, narrowing down an area to about 10x10 and pulled 15 good size cats between us.  What a honey hole! Lots of algae in the water so you had to be on them to get any action.  Hats off to my buddy who played a gig until 1am and only got 1/2 hr sleep and still got otw.

Great report JK. The picture of your buddy with the great smile says it all. It's nice to find a honey hole and just keep coming back to it.
Thanks for the report and sure glad you had fun OTW.
It's good you're enjoying the Memorial Day weekend.

Cool report and pictures JK. Thanks for sharing. BTW, what lure or bait was used
for the striper and catfish? Thanks!

Wow, awesome report!  :smt002  Sounds like you slayed them!!!  Were you picking them up on the FF, or just blind fishing when ya found 'da spot'?

Al - we were marking fish all over on the FF - the algae made it really difficult though - it was like pea soup.  my buddy hit the striper and I was about 50 yards up current on the drift, he paddled back and threw to the same spot and hit the 1st kitty, he threw back again and got hit and missed and called me over - then it was on!

redwoodfox - went back monday with my aluminum and one more angler - only managed 4 cats out of the same hole - there was a bit more boat traffic on memorial day but the OVERWHELMING topic of discussion was how much better we could hold our spot with the yaks - sunday was really one of the coolest fishing experiences Ive ever had.  one guy would get one on - paddle back to deeper water the next guy would move in and get one on and the circle just continued until we ran out of bait.  Could have easily stayed for another 1/2 hour-hour slaying em!

Sounds like a fantastic day.

We were using live/dead shad.

My question is, how did you get a hold of live shad?  Minnow trap?

We use an umbrella net - basically have to get there around 4:30-5:00 am - get on a dock and get your bait.  They have recently posted signs saying this is not allowed from the docks anymore but if you get there early enough it shouldnt be a problem.

ive mentioned this before but do not use a cast net or even bring one to a freshwater lake - especially san antonio as they love to write $450 tickets there.

Wow, looks like a great day! :smt007  Haven't seen a report from there before either! We went last year with Andy on July 4th and it was a mad house of boats, jetskis, skiers and we couldn't really even get out to fish!   :smt012

I've never heard of an umbrella net.  Sounds like a good way to pull up some bait!  What one do you recommend?
