Me and a bud hit the water at 7:30am and worked our way out past the pinnacles and droped them in.  Had a 23.99 inch ling on the first drop: ) Steve was up next with the biggest cab we've seen.  24" monster with fins that looked like wings.  We worked the area with swim baits and scampies for 3 hours for 6 on the stringer.  Wind finally blew us off at 11:00.  What a killer place to yak. Had multiple other fish on and caught a good size olive as well.  Launch was a breeze both in and out.

Things learned.

Noodles work great attached to you rods. No more leashes...
Pull the mirage drive when going threw thick kelp beds.
Remember you pulled your drive and that there is now a whole there that fish can escape from  :smt005

Can't wait to learn more about this place.  What a nice place to play.....

SWC is definitely a beautiful place especially for diving!  Unless you're paddling through very thick kelp beds, I've found using the "drive keeper" (the bungee with a hook) to keep the mirage drive up against the hull will work so you don't have to pull it out and "worry" about escaping fish thru this hole  :smt003  Thanks for the nice report Jerry.  Add a couple of pictures would make this a "great" report!

I pulled a cabbie that was 25 inches last week from Stillwater; that fish was a monster.
I'm gonna piggie back on this thread but here are my pictures from 5-15 and 16th as i'm too lazy to start my own  :smt009

The pictures do not do justice to the size of this monster:
to compare the other two smaller fish where 16 and 19 inches; the monster was 25.

Thanks for the post guys! way to get out there this weekend.

Got one pic from my buds I phone.  Can't see much but not a bad stringer.

I did use the cord and flip up the mirage drive but the kelp was dam ass thick so it was way easier to cruise from hole to hole with it out.

From Scotts valley the run is perfect.  1 hour down to the spot, play for a few hours.  Hit Phil's on the way back and picked up some prawns and raw oysters.  Great fish fry last night.

Do any of you guys use a kelp anchor or do you all just tie up to it?

Steve's cab got stuck in the kelp while comming up.  I cruised over and reached down low with the gaff and stuck it.  With its " wings" spread out it looked like a monster.  Dam tasty as well.

Good stuff Jerry. Thanks for the report man. I think you'll enjoy that area, lots of quality fish.
And yeah, I always have a kelp line tied from my bow but most-often I just wrap a piece of kelp around my footpeg because I'm constantly moving from one pocket to the next.

Jerry,
My brother and I were the one on the green yaks out there with you guys. Just watching you guys having so much fun was a blast. I saw you guys pull up the short ling and send it back down but when that cabbie came up, I was like " Holy Shit, that was a toad of a cabbie". Way to go and by the way, that was a hell of a gaff job.
We only hooked three rockfish but nothing to brag about. At least we didn't go home with skunks and had a good dinner for wife and kids.
Like you, we froze our ass when that wind kicked in and decided we have had enough. we drove around the corner to see how the rest of the water looked and saw nothing but whitecaps. Glad we went to SW.

That cabbie dinner looks good with the herbs and fish sauce. Making me salivate and hungry.
