As far as safe, watch out for water skiers, jetski crazies, hi-powered Bass boats, generic speedboats from jets to v-drives to just plain careless boaters.  The delta will be full of them from now til October.

Currents can be really tricky, wind doesn't seem to be as big an issue as many sloughs are narrow and don't allow it to whip things up too much.

As far as the best places to avoid such hazards, I'll let others chime in..

I believe the safest place in the delta is Discovery bay. Its a very large area with several bays and lots of fish. Goggle it and you will see. Later in the year the shad will spawn and the stripers show in  up force. And there are lots of bass and catfish. Its all no wake area. I will tell you a striper trick if you go there. First catch a few 3 inch bluegill and drift around the boat docks. And you will have a good chance of catching a larger fish. Have fun and post in the hookup when you go and maybe you will meet some of these wonderful folks. :smt006

If you find a place, let me know. I frequent the delta a lot and know a few sheltered safe areas and could join you.

Delta = I don't know. But I DO know about our other local bass opportunities like Pinto, Loch Lomond, Coyote, Anderson, Calero, Chesbro, Uvas, Almaden, Guadalupe, Lake San Antonio, Naci, San Luis & the Forebay, Hernandez, Pinoche, Pacheco, etc. Welcome to daMadness and drop me a line if you want info on any of those lakes.

Oh, you can still fish those lakes. You just have to go at night, under the cover of darkness. And they don't even charge an inspection fee after 10pm.  :smt044
But yeah, LL is a bummer. We should try to make friends w/the locals who paid $ to "store" their yaks there....
