Don,
I will be sure that all the yaks Ben picks up have a PFD and Paddle with them.
Whish I could join you but duty calls at the store.
Good luck with this event - it is a great cause.
See you soon,
Eric

P.S.
Are you OK on rods and reels?

Thanks Again Yakhopper!!!!!!     :smt041

I think we will be, Brian is Bringing " Several", and what what we have coming, I think we will be ok...

We need to figure on how were fishing this lake and what is going to be the easy way for these Vets to catch fish.

Taking on a kayak for the first time, and fishing is a juggle, so we should get together about what were bringing in the way of

  " Barbless, weedless, tackle....  "

Some of the vets may be familiar with baitcasters too, which would be great...

so bring those if ya have em....

Don,

Can you fish minnows in this lake?  Minnow under a bobber ... simple, weedfree, and easy.

Then just pitch into the holes would be awesome.
Why aren't you going to be there Allen?

No live bait allowed.

From their website http://www.kelseybassranch.com/members.htm

13. Fishing with live bait is not allowed.

14. All plastic baits must be fished with barbless hooks. Light wire worm hooks are recommended. NO SENKO-LIKE BAIT! Braided line/leader recommended.

Sincerely,

Jim

I do most of my bass fishing with plastics. Easy to rig weedless, easy to put where you need it to go. Worms, crawdads, lizards, brush hogs, etc. I just bought some palstic minnow swimmers, but have not tried them. Not weedless by far. Hard to even think about crankbaits being weedless, unless I'm clueless and it is easy. I just bought some weedless hooks for my craws and they seem to work good, except I've caught nothing on them. It seems to me unless there is some nice open clear water that cranks of any type will be hard for them to use. If the wind comes up we need to make it as easy for them as well. We can drop anchors near weed beds so they don't drift too much and try to cast at the same time. Just thinking out loud.

I'd love to be there, but any free time I have right now is spent on the MLPA stuff.

Pardon my naïveté but what's with the no Senko thing?

they say somewhere on their website that a lot of bass were half-swallowing senkos and ended up being injured that way.

probably the easiest way to fish would be texas or carolina rigged plastics.  weedless.  or fluke type lures weedless.

i should be able to bring enough spare tackle for my two vets.  i will work on some stuff to see if i can get more.

while the tournament stuff is really nice, i think its probably too much trouble to worry about.  i don't think any of us "guides" are doing it because we can win a prize and that the K.I.S.S. method is best

There are 2 sides of looking at this... believe it or not, most of these events are in tournament style, and as much as I agree with you, Brian1976 has put on 6 of these already, and has been there, so I have to trust, it's possible.

I also think having these guys put on a little competition between themselves would be healthy...

We will know from our pre-fishing if it's going to be hot or not ...

if fishing is a little slow, then brians style would probably be fine....

if it's off the hook... then I'm thinking just numbers of fish caught, sized be dammed...

will have time to figure out what will be best...

Hope all the guides can get there early to pre-fish...

Good idea's on the worm rigging, and will probably be the best way to go, but there are open water areas where crankbaits are effective, and spinnerbaits... weather should have warmed up pretty good by then, so these bass should be active...

The other issue is...  The VA is going to get there around 10, 2 hour plus drive, have to get acquainted, paper work straighten out, yak/guide assignment, safety meeting, and then everyone is probably going to be hungry...

we might need to have the lunch first as were getting everyone together, not my first choice, but these guys/gals are going to be traveling for 2 plus hours, and may want something to eat first, at least that is what the VA is saying...

I actually believe, they will be arriving around 9:30ish, they think it will take then 3 hours to drive from palo alto, I guess what I'm saying, we need to be flexible and ready to swing with the flow.

maybe we should be thinking of some kind of quick snack that will keep'em going for a few hours more, till were off the water, and have the Big Pow wow lunch and prizes...

we could also cater on the water with the bass boat to anyone who is hungry otw...

Kayakjack!!!?  Any ideas here?  i also need to talk to the VA about what they need to pick up at Safeway...

Another Bit of Good News is kmstorn64 will be there with " BIG Berhta..."

The VA's outreach Doc in a Box with Doc present...

Thanks Kevin,  it's you that finally got me the right contacts to get this thing flying...

Thanks Again, and REALLY glad you and your Dr. will be there....  :smt006

any news on Terry?

Don,  I haven't seen a discussion on this yet, but how are you doing for paddle wear?  What is the water temp on the lake?  Safety first.  Dress for immersion.

Thats how we roll in Rural Outreach!  FYI, we have three cots I can throw on the ground if some one needs to relax.  I can also bring a PFD, anchor, and paddle, throwing my yak in may not go over with the upper management.  My Main Doc is bummed he is stuck in hospital rotations, but my back up doc is more than ready to go, she has a great personality and is really great to work with. I while be on shore duty and if I don't have a patient I am more than happy to perform KP services for the chef in charge.

PS on a side note any of the volunteers who may be veterans we are there for you folks too so please do not hesitate to come on by and sign up for benifits or just check out the rig..after all you earned it!

Haven't gone there,  kinda figuring it's going to warm up, shallow foothills lake, and we won't be out there long....  I guess I was figuring on shorts, but that may not be enough if the weather keeps doing what it has been doing...

It's a good point, and I don't know....  That's alot of paddle gear to get together

any suggestions???
