Sweet Brent!

I also got two more PFDs, Paddles and Seats that Scallen is going to loan us, and Zisco has a paddle, two PFDs and two spinning set-ups as well!!

My "extra" gear total so far:

1 yak
8 PFDs
7 paddles
3 spinning outfits
3 seats (in case some of the yaks don't have them)

Will update the above list as I get more responses.  :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

I sadly can't make the event but I can donate a ton of stuff, 3 PFDs, 2 paddles, a tandem (OK Zest, and a T15), 3 carts and at least 2 baitcasting setups. If someone can haul from the southbay I am more than happy to loan my gear out for the day.

Thanks Bill...

I'm hopeful that with the Volunteers we have, we will come up with enough gear...

But, will keep it in mind as we get close and are lacking....

That being said, we just lost one of our " Anchors... " due to a life event...

so,

I'm looking for a few more people who can make this event as well as Kayaks and Gear

Just post here or shoot me a PM or call,

 Thanks,

I'm in. I'll bring my T-160DH for them. I'll use my Pam 120 SIK if you need me OTW also. Maybe I can find a loaner SOT. 2 paddles. My PFD's are not really kayak jackets, but they work. 2 Spinning rods, 2-3 casting rods, other lures etc. Send me the details and I'll bring what ever I need to. I have 1 more spinning rod, but no reel. If someone brings extra reel, Ill bring the pole. Maybe I just need to buy one more.

I think were looking good on Gear and people...

Thanks so much...

Were going to try and run a mini tournament for The Troops...

probably have you guys running with 2 Vets each, maybe one to one...

time to think of strategy of how to fish this lake, I heard the shoreline is a bit weedy and heavier line may be needed,

here again are the tips from the owner of the lake....

  Good Luck....   :smt004

Quote
Some fishing suggestions for the Vets--
Fishing from the shore--There are lots of weeds along most of the shoreline so you are limited to weedless presentations like texas rigged worms and perhaps some top water baits like small poppers. Also can use some small plastic swim baits like Yum monery minnows or strike king shadalicious. Slow sinking worms like Yamamoto cut tail worms in watermelon red, watermelon, or pumpkin always work either weightless or up to 1/8 oz of weight. Along the dam you can also throw deep crankbaits in chrome/blue, firetiger and shad colors. Water out from the dam is up to 12 feet deep. In some of the shallower areas throw baits like rattle traps in chrome colors.
If fishing from boats, I would suggest you try top water baits first thing on any flat water along the edge of weed beds. Poppers, small prop baits and small wake baits. This has been the best bite especially from the boat dock south and around the point and up the cove along the park up to the water pump. Also try around the small island with poppers and wake baits and rattle traps. All the way to the south end of the lake along the road is good for both top water, swimbaits, traps as well as worms. The very end on the south holds fish in the shallows next to weed beds and stickups. The middle of the south end has lots of submerged trees good for crank baits. The sunken island with the 3 marker buoys is good for worms and crank baits. The banks along the tall island to the east of the markers buoys are good for top water and cranks.  Try all stickups with worms or jigs. The east side of the lake has lots of flats. Try shallow cranks like rattle traps in the open water. The center of the lake from the marker buoys to the dam is good for deep cranks baits, as is the area opposite the dam. The north end of the lake has good points to fish and lots of shore weed lines to fish shallow cranks and worms. If it is overcast top water will work most of the day. Any offshore weeds groups can hold fish. Throw worms/jigs to these.
With the water clearing up jerk baits can also be productive.
Gear--You can use casting or spinning gear. With the weeds growing fast you should use a minimum of 14 lb mono. Remember all worm/jig hooks must be barbless or squeeze the barbs down with pliers. Good luck and have fun.

Right on Don! Things are all coming together well!

I was thinking about the tourney part of the event:

I was thinking that the guides could have a pre-fish/tourney in the morning before the Joes show up.  the guide who catches the biggest fish during the pre-fish will win a new Kodak Zi6 pocket camcorder..In black.

After our little morning tour of the lake we can get all the stuff ready for the guys/girls to show up.

Here is what I'm thinking for the mini tourney with the soldiers.....

1st, second, and third amounts of fish...based on inches.  Guides will be given a waterproof notbook case (4X4" necklace style) a notebook, two golf pencils and a small 36" retractable measuring tape.   A 10 inch bonus will be given for multiple species caught (IE catfish/bluegill/trout) So if 3 participants catch 40 inches of bass then the 10" bonus will be in play..

Of course I'm open to any suggestions for the tournament part of the event.

Thanks everyone for jumping on board and for all of your contributions to these guys and gals.  Hopefully after this event most of them will walk away with a new skill and activity  (kayak fishing) to help them along in their road to recovery...

Brian.

Looking at the tips and what these guys will be facing on the yaks...

if we could get together some crankbaits and spinner baits, that we will have to make weedless..

and some money type swim baits... to deal with the weeds...

that might be the easiest way to get them on fish.
