Heroes on the Water 1st Event, June 4th

yeah its a shallow lake, i think 14 foot at deepest.  pretty shallow and by the time we go there i imagine the water will be in the mid 60s to 70s.  i will be in shorts and tshirt personally.

  looks like the VA might be bringing 5 more Vets....  

 possibility now of 22...  Chances are, this won't be the number, but have to prepare...

Looks like it got just a little out of hand, It's just that, the VA told 2 friends in the VA, and they told 2 friends, they said they could not make it, now they can...

 and I don't want to say No...  this should be it,,,

  We also have options with the 2 Bass Boats and Canoe, and one Vet already said he just wants to fish the shore with his father...

 Hope we can change his mind.....

1 is for me since my little truck can carry 2 yaks max!  I have another Hobie tandem available but no room in my truck!

Yeah, I don't think we need to worry too much about paddle wear other than the basic safety equipment.

   On the other hand, we don't want these folks to have to endure any more trauma than they've already seen.

Here is possible pain in the lower leg and Toes... 

 does anyone know about these bugs in this area. If we do have biting bugs in the shallows, that could be a problem per I in-vision us being knee deep in water for a long time getting the Vets comfortable in the Yaks....

Here is the quote from the Ranch Owner...

The water temp.  is around 65 degrees at the Dam and closer to 60 on the
south end where the water from the Merced River comes in. Below the surface
a few feet it may be in the mid fifties. Wet suits are good for the anglers
that stand in the water along the shore where the water weeds grow. It's not
the temp. in this case but an insect the lives around the aquatic weeds
related to the water striders and assassin bugs (water flea), it has a nasty
bite that causes an allergic reaction, not when you get bit, but in the
following days you may develop itchy bumps that last for a few days. This
insect has not been noticed this year and it generally is around during the
summer months so you should be OK.

I hope my disclosure of the bity bug doesn't cause excess
precaution or concern, I don't think it's the season for them yet and
besides that it has been cool. My wife was bit by them last summer, but that
was in July. A strong dose of bug'n'sun applied generously on your legs
protects you for a while.

If one of us stays on shore to help out there, our extra gear count is:

2 yaks           8 pfds         7 paddles        3 spinning out fits

If both of us stay on shore:

3 yak           9 pfds         8 paddles        4 spinning out fits

We are both fine with doing whatever it is that will help the most...

Remember that nice comfortable sofa you were going to sleep on? Sorry its now occupied but you can sleep on the floor in my garage. Don't worry, our spiders are very friendly.

and I think we are going to be fine, even with the extra Vets, if they show...

Does anyone have a large water jug that we could make Gator aid or something?

Were getting down to the wire, I'm really Busy at work today on a Medic, going to be pushed pretty hard tomorrow too as I run around picking last minute things...

I'm leaving for the Lake Thursday afternoon, so if there is anything, any of you need, please get ahold of me and I'll probably only be available by phone starting Thursday afternoon...

I'm expecting 23 Vets, you guys will probably be having 2 vets each...

show early the day of the event to get a feel for the lake...

let me know if you still need directions  and does anyone have a HUGE water jug?

brian1976...  could you bring everything you have or call me?
