After being blown out on opening day and losing several tackles scoring nada, tried to make a comeback 5/8 at Lovers Point SMCA and what a turnout of events.

Launched at 7:30am after a hearty breakfast at a friend's house in Marina. This time, we decided to use the stairs instead of the usual launch by the kayak rental place for a quick access to the fishing grounds. And we meant quick. Just a few strokes past the rocks in the middle of some kelp beds and Ben caught his first gopher.

Move farther out again through the middle of another kelp beds and I caught my first two. This went on and on as we moved from kelp beds to kelp beds. We caught an assortment of gophers, blacks and yellows and two greenlings to 14".

One thing we learnt: after catching 2 in an area, somehow the fishes get spooked out and wont bite anymore or scrams away. So we moved to the next kelp beds and as soon as we lowered our lure down, tap tap tap and one fish down. The most we caught in an area are 4 fishes but it was double hookup happening 2x. Then we'll moved again and if nothing happens within 3 ~ 5 mins, we moved again.

Enjoyed a wonderful day and we were thankful for bounties of the sea. Back to my friend's house for another hearty lunch at 12:30N.

Here's some pics:

Rog, Lapulapu, it's time to go fishing.

Jim,
Should have joined you on opening day at SWS. Can't forget how well you did that opening day and I was thinking of that all week long. Anyways, time to move on to the next bigger prize: your lings.

redwoodfox,
Think of it this way. The longer u wait, the bigger they get. Just one more week?

Good job but I think Pacific Grove is the SMCA and Lovers Point is a SMR (no fishing). At least that is how I interpreted it.

Great Bass 2 and Usagi,

You're right guys. Should call it Pacific Grove SMCA. Although the place has been tagged Lover's Point because that's where yakers usually launch. Thanks for pointing and clearing things out. Fishing grounds is always to the left of the Point.

Always fish on the SMCA and not on SMR's.

Alien,

I always hail you on ch69 every time I'm in Monterey. So whenever you hear "Alien, are you there? This is superd", that would be me.
Never caught any reds in this area. I know that's your favorite. Still remember last year when we were hoping to get the last of the WSB's and you caught some Reds on the side.
See ya soon.
PM me when you're goin. Always love to go with the experts and who knows the area like the back of his hand.

Highide, had to look at the pics again to see what you're saying and you were right. You must be a good photographer or have the eyes of a good critic.

Nice job. For me, if we're on 'um, I'll stay put... Yes, 5/10 min. rule apply. We all know, can move 10ft. and be back on fish. Different plays here, if on fish, I'll try at least 1 different offering before moving and always, always, pound the bottom before making a move. Structure... If on lots of "dinks", move and pound, pound. I like big fish, generally they like bigger offerings...
