I'm guessing if anyone is catching the WSB they're keeping very tight lipped. I'd still like to know.

If you see 50-100 PB's drifting multiple rods in rodholders in 1-200 FOW there are WSB around. It's called reading the water.  :smt005

If I could see the water from here I would hold a world record for the best eyesight in the world.  :smt044

I was hoping to find out before this weekend, but I'm betting I won't.  :smt005

Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

The whole Mbay seabass thing is pretty rare. It happened last Sept and this Jan but it's normally a 5-6 year cycle.  They just happened to follow squid into the Bay...it's not a normal occurrence. You'd have a much better chance to catch one out of Cap or Santa Cruz (or HMB right now, supposedly). Of course, I'm talking a 1/10000 chance compared to 1/50000 chance....either way odds are slim up here. You'd have a much better chance to catch a salmon or big striper around here. That said, you hooked a seal last year Rich!  :smt005  See you guys Sunday! :smt008

Sorry Rich, forgot you don't have eyes on the water. Here is my tip...

Target halibut and ling cod. To make things simple, use a whole squid rig which you can use for both. Fish 2 rods for halibut if you don't have a rockfish on your clip. If you want to go all out, bring a sabiki and bait tube/livewell and fish live bait for both. If you want to bring home a delicious dinner, you are welcome to join me for some dabbin.  :smt006

That's okay. I wish I was that lucky.  :smt006

This is actually Gabe. Rich's friend.

When Rich and I went there last year we caught dabs with one rod and drifted a whole squid for the WSB on the other. Dabs are good eating.

Just got the green light so I can go. I will register asap.
If I don't get seasick in a 6" swell, beginners luck will prevail.
Looking foward to being alive again.

If any newbies want to tag along with someone with a little experience, I'm willing to show you around.  My plan is to drift dead squid while sabiki-ing up some live bait.  Out to the flats for butts we go, hitting the reefs on the way back in.  I'll even provide the squid!!!

-Allen

P.S. Limited to 2 people, and you must be appropriately equipped (dressed for immersion, PFD, etc.)

Great idea Allen, Put me on the list for anyone who is a newbie as and wants to be with someone who has some experience. Just look for the older guy in the wet wetsuit.  :smt044

Hint Hint to MBK Shopkeeper.

You've got a bunch of us equipment-whores coming to fish your tourney this weekend.  Throw a SALE sign on pretty much ANY article of gear and it'll likely get snapped up!

Isn't it about that time of year anyway when MBK does their inventory blowout?
