Just joined NCKA and I have not seen anyone with the Ocean Torque Kayak. My wife and I are on our 3rd set of kayaks and had too get the Ocean Torque simply because at our age and a long life of injuries can not do what we use to be able too do, but we still love kayaking and fishing from them, nothing like it.
Went too the launch ramp today without them just driving around looking at different places to put in and ran into a group of kayakers running the upper Sac river, when we told them we had the new Torque model, all of a sudden we were made to feel like we didn't belong. So my simple question is this what we can expect from most others?

I hope not, just reading these forum you guys are having way too much fun, But we don't want to join any group that feels this way about what we have too use to enjoy kayaking, BTW, none of these people were NCKA members.

i dont think so, i like the simplicity of a kayak better though, and having to carry a car battery and a motor would be to much, i just converted to Hobie kayaks and am never going to look back, and no need for battery. I would rather have a john boat than a torque but that is me.

Our second set of kayaks were Hobie revolutions, but with bad knees and my wifes bad hip we were forced too sell them, but yeah, they were nice.

Tailchaser, it sounds like maybe the kayakers you ran into were paddlers and not kayakfishers. Big difference IMO. I doubt you'll catch too much grief from kayakfishers.....and if you do it will probably be based upon envy.  How well do those things paddle if & when the battery dies? I'm assuming you've got paddles for back-up. jim

PS: If it would get my wife OTW fishing with me I would buy her one of those torques in a second.

Actually they paddle pretty good, as good as the revolution did IMO, Truth be told it was my wife who convinced me to get them and she's in them every weekend, (We live on a lake) with the Sacramento River in our back yard.
The control you have while fishing is unbelievable, even more than I ever had in my bass boat.

I got burned out on fishing as I did it for years competitively and it got too be more like work, but in a kayak it's a whole different sport and instantly brought the fun factor back.

P.S I think your wife would love the simplicity of use.

We accept all types here.  :smt006

You may get some ribbing, but hell, I even like to rag the Hobie guys!

Welcome to the madness. You sound like you'll fit right in.

Saltydog,
The torque is a trident 13 with the motor option.

Tailchaser,
I would think that most Kayak Anglers would welcome the Torque just like the Mirage drive - Different but the same. If you get to much flack about it you can always fish with me at the events I put on which promote the fellowship of Kayak Anglers.

The Torque, The mirage Drive and even the SOT design are all offtakes of what the Eskimos designed as the true Kayak

More questions.....
So you could pull the motor & battery and it becomes a T-13 exactly? If that's true this would make a great backup boat to my Revo. Do they provide a plug for where the motor normally goes? And finally, the most important question, do fish caught on a Torque with battery & motor installed count towards AOTY?  :smt003

Don't think so.  Most kayak tournaments require the kayak to be propelled by man and not batter.  Although it sounds like this might not apply at Eric's events.

 Your Welcome Here Of Course,

I think your going to get more questions about the system rather than ribbing...

The Only Drawback is not being able to compete in the AOTY...

But it sounds as though you have had enough of that Madness anyway.....   :smt002

Saltydog,
Yes the Torque comes with a plug to use for those times when you can't or don't want to use the motor which allows it to paddle simular to a Trident 13.

My events are designed to incourage the brotherhood of the Kayak Angler and encourage others to join the madness. This includes Paddle, Peddle and drive units (as long as health/physical reasons could justify the assisted propulsion). Most all modern kayaks are a modification from the original Kayak anyways.

The AOTY is not for me to decide, but I believe the powers to be would probably agree with the statement above

I agree that any motorized kayak should not be included in the AOTY, It really is too much of an advantage against a strictly paddled kayak, not only is it way more controllable while fishing that most paddlers have to contend with but the range you could travel would IMO make it an unfair advantage, strictly in the water covered it's self.

And yeah I still like fishing but at a much slower pace, and not interested in fishing competitively again, but it looks like it would have been fun a few years ago.

We were just looking for others who enjoy kayak fishing as we do.

 Thanks for the welcome   :smt004
