I would have to disagree with the statement " range you could travel would IMO make it an unfair advantage"

I have sold one to a customer who fishes with me often and added an Odyssey Battery with exceptional reserve capacity (sorry i don't have the specs right now). We trolled Shaver lake from 8am till he ran out of juice around 4pm and I helped him remove the Motor so we could finish the day while he paddled for a couple more hours. Sounds like the motor may be faster out of the hole but at fishing speed it just doesn't compair to a steady paddle.

Tailchaser, you came to the right place to be welcomed. In fact, the vibe here is generally if a kayak innovation helps you get out on the water, all the better.

Good to hear the kayak got you to enjoy fishing again. Welcome to the madness.  :smt006

Hey another Redding yak fisherman,
cool :smt004 that makes 3 of us now :smt003

Welcome to the madness Tailchaser
I'd like to hook up with you and do some fishing and check out your new torque,
not getting any younger myself and when my shoulder gets to the point of not being able to paddle any more the Torque would work great :smt002

Welcome to the NCKA, you will love it here!

Like the saying goes, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do."
I got my revo because of a bad shoulder. Two surgeries later and I still can't paddle effectively.
The only bummer about the Torque, and I may be mistaken, is that I think you need to get CF#s for it.

I am new here myself, so I want you to take my opinion with a grain of salt as well as understand that my opinion is mine and not necessarily any kind of general consensus, but the way I see it you will run into those groups of paddlers that will look down on you since you are not limiting yourself to only using a paddle. Fortunately for you though, this is NCKA not NCKP. Meaning that there are those here who paddle, peddle and as the sport is evolving now e-motor around, but in general the interest is in the use of a kayak for fishing. I don't think you really will be looked down on here. For a long time true purists saw the sit-on-top as a sick perversion for the unskilled masses. But in reality, is a boat defined by it's design or it's method of propulsion? If I sit on a 55 gallon drum and use my kayak paddle, am I 'Kayaking' or if I take my kayak and use a single bladed canoe oar, am I now canoeing? I wouldn't worry too much about the purists and just enjoy those boats. O.K., Hobie both make electric motor optional boats now and they still call these boats kayaks.

I do have one, well, several questions, in deciding to buy the O.K.'s, did you test drive first? What is the 'skinny' on those boats - Pros/Cons? Are there Launch/load complications? How are they in the wind? have you taken them out in rough water? How do they do in a current, shallow water...? Since the drive is in the back, I would imagine that when going into a wind or current they may tend to bow-steer a bit. Any info would be great. Otherwise enjoy.

Good luck.

Tailchaser, it sounds like maybe the kayakers you ran into were paddlers and not kayakfishers. Big difference IMO. I doubt you'll catch too much grief from kayakfishers.....and if you do it will probably be based upon envy.

PS: If it would get my wife OTW fishing with me I would buy her one of those torques in a second.

Well said - I agree.

From what I've seen here over the past year, or so, is it doesn't matter what you paddle (or, I guess, drive :smt002 ), you'll get a lot of encouragement. In fact, the only time I've seen anything resembling hostility related to carelessness about safety, racism and belligerence, not your boat/gear. Welcome to the madness!

welcome to the site - of course you are welcome into the community.  while there is a human powered component to AOTY, and maybe for certain tournaments, everything else is open game!  if you ever head on down this way i'd love to have my wife try out your torque - that might be willing to get her on the water more with me  :smt001

Tailchaser,   Welcome.  I don't think you'll have to worry about getting the snob nose treatment here!  When your ready, talk to Bill, (Site manager) and get a few of his NCKA stickers to adorn your kayaks.  I can't imagin anyone that kayaks not knowing about NCKA these days and perhaps them "Snobs" won't be as snobby towards you & your wife then. certinally won't happen at one the many NCKA get togethers that happen all the time these days.
Nothing like seeing 40+ kayaks beached along a lake! (At lunch time of course)
