This is the protected cove at Pigeon Point viewed from the foot of the light house.  The water was very calm, I was very tempted to give it a try, but thought I better check with the experts first.  Has anyone dove here and can give some advises?

Do white sharks come into the area I circled?  I thought if I stay close to shore I can minimize the chance of a visit.

Also, what's the depth around that straight edge?

Bottomline, is this a spot you would dive?

A guy named Omar got eaten near there 26 years ago...

Google "Omar Conger"...

I've dove just south of there and further down at Franklin and Ano Nuevo.  It's known to be sharky - there's no 2 ways about it.

Good luck.   :smt001

16 foot Whitey, Omar died very quickly then three more people were attacked over the next few days along the coast.

Like Porky said.

If I remember correctly Omar was outside the cove, somewhere to the west of the light house, no?  My hope is if the cove is say 7' deep, sharks might not want to come in?

They are all over that area. I speak from personal experience. 7' of water would not deter them

There was 1 shark attack on a kayak at bean Hollow ( just a little North of that spot) a few years ago and 3 more sightings before and after that. AND Ano Nuevo is not too far South either.

I'd stay topside.

oh...and there are sea lions that perch a long the rocks by the light house as well....

If I were an ambush predator, just outside the cove would be a good place to be.

Totally.
the marine topography there has a bit of a shelf structure to it in about 50-60FOW. Along that drop off is where I saw mine, & Ben saw it the day before just as he was leaving the cove at Bean.

Bluestar:
You obviously have concerns about the dive area, legitimate concerns given the intel about the area.  Why practice there if you don't feel fully comfortable?  There are a lot of guys who drive a couple of hours to dive in relatively safer spots (SWS or Ft. Ross areas)- of course there are no guarantees.

Check the hookups in this forum or on norcalunderwaterhunters.com
There are a lot of newbie divers  like myself, BaitnBeer and others who will be diving a lot this year.  I will PM you the next time I go.
Send us a PM for a dive, and join us.  There are also experienced guys like Steve, Amphibian, Bloodbath, Fuzz and Andy the FishMaster (who probably hasn't seen a rod/reel since starting to dive).

Be safe and hope to see you OTW
