Our boat is still in the shop so a neighbor pitied us and took us fishing. Launched at Doran Park at first light. I had a small mishap and fell out of the boat...onto the ramp. Luckily I landed on my brains (ass and elbow) and this would haunt me the rest of the day and into the future. His aged two stroke outboards were fickle to say the least and smoked like a chimney all day. At about eight in the morning my rig took a huge bendo and the fight was on. It's been so long since the last salmon fight on a boat we were a three ring circus. Patrick kept his cool and did a perfect head first net job.
Less than a half hour later the down rigger went off and it was the skipper's rod. This time it was my job to get the fish in the net and the fish was not making me look like a seasoned pro but it finally gave me the shot I was patiently waiting for ....In the Net! Eight thirty and two in the box...not bad. Then the waiting game began. One small shaker for Patrick around noon and then two more hours until his rod went bow shaped and after a great fight he got it alongside and into the net. We continued trolling until after three-thirty and called it quits.
Krill fish are the bomb when kept iced and very cold. The bellies and collars are going in the smoker and it's bbq'd salmon for dinner tonight. At one point we were summoned to help a good buddies boat that had gone dead in the water....all electrics dead. We went to assist but they needed a tow and that was just not possible  with the crappy stalling motors. We gave them our back up hand held and stood by until another boat  came to their aid for a tow. As this was the season opener for us it was an outstanding day! Another Great Day on the Water.....

Very nice job there... I'm sure you didn't cause yourself too much brain damage though. You still managed to get into the fish. My mouth is watering as I type. I hope I'm lucky enough to hook into one this season.
