Domenic and I hit it full force today.  The forecast of "slight chance of showers" turned into a nice little rain storm this morning - the wipers were on all the way from home to the Cove.  We arrived down there right around 10AM and a squall had just finished blowing through - good timing!  About 10 powerboats were out, and we quickly got word that a good number of fish were caught yesterday out by the Whistle.  10 fish were caught from one boat according to the ramp report.  We were stoked.  Got on the water and paddled out around Pilot Rock and toward the Whistle in a large arc around Al's Area - it was crashing today.  We got out to 40 FOW and baited up to start trolling.  After 15 minutes or so Dom had landed a rockfish and I got out in front of him.  I was feeling a little woozy because it was pretty messy and unorganized out there - post-squall and a mixed north and south swell - so I kept paddling for the area north of the Whistle where we could see the fleet.  After a while we were in hearing range again (I had my radio too low to hear him hailing me - duh!) and Dom reports he'd landed and released a shaker salmon!  Good news!  Radio talk was slow and hopes were high that the bite would turn on as the afternoon progressed.  At one point Dom was on top of a pile of little kings and they were following his bait as he mooched, but no hookups.  We called it around 5PM.  Caught several rockfish, 3 lingcod, and a good case of pooped-out!    :smt005  It was a great time - not many fish were caught by anyone, but they're there.  We must've trolled 10 miles or so as we were at it constantly for almost 7 hours.  I'm toast.  Can't wait for the next run.   :smt001

We also met up with Dan the Boogieman out there - nice to see you!   :smt006

AAAaaaAaRRrrrGGgggggg.....

I'm really trying to stay focused on the half-full part.  Good job, great family, lucky to be able to get out and enjoy my surroundings with excellent friends...  but I'm definitely feeling the AAAaaaAaRRrrrGGgggggg.  The Fish Gods must have a big plan for me, because it's been a while!   :smt002

Glad to be able to provide some entertainment here, and thank you Guys, cuz I know you're pulling for me!   :smt008

What I do feel good about is the confidence that I'm in the right place at the right time presenting the right bait with the proper hardware.  It's just a matter of time.   :smt001

I'm just impressed that you guys could paddle in that washing machine crap for 7 hours. I hate that stuff.

Otherwise, thanks for letting us in on the fun!

Eric,

Really glad you and your buddy got to spend the whole day out OTW fishing together...

No controlling whether the fish choose to bite or not...

You are doing everything right, while spending the day in a beautiful place with good company and I am sure that is keeping your "soul creel" full.   :smt002

Thanks for the report and pics, and hope you and Domenic get the chance to get out there again soon!

Looking forward to meeting both of you up there at GS4.
 :smt006
Sincerely,

Jim

Way to give it a try Eric and Dom. If salmon would still be available for the GS4, I'm hoping one of
those fish has my name on it. :smt001
