I was trying to finish up some orders this morning and went to pick up a 8/0 hook about 15 minutes ago.  Guess it was stuck and decided to go through my finger.  Went to the neighbor friends house and he was gone so his wife tried cutting the point but couldn't squeeze hard enough because she was vomiting and freaking out.  Then another neighbor had some bolt cutters and cut it above the barb and I pulled it out.  Not the first time or the last I guess but at least I know mustad ultra points are sharp.

Wow!  greusome dude!

Here's a tip.  Before you pull the hook through, slather it liberally with antibacterial ointment.  This puts the ointment into the puncture would.  (figured this out in big Sur one year)

Glad you are OK, tetanus shots up to date?

Yea.  That looks familiar.  I got snagged on a damned sabiki setup last summer.  My solution:  ice for 10 minutes (numb), cut hook, threaded out, 3-in-1 ointmnet.  Rather surreal, pulling a foreign object out of your skin.  I think it hurt everyone else on the boat more than it hurt me (don't get me wrong - hurt like an SOB).

Thanks for the ointment trick.  I wish I would have had enough battery to film my trip up and down the street trying to find someone to help me and the poor lady vomiting and nearly passing out was funny.  Went fishing a few hours later and caught a nice bass so I'm happy.

Quick.....get a cool sterilized bar bell piercing in there to force the puncture to heal as a hole through your finger.  Then you can do cool tricks with it.  :smt003

Jeeeezzzzzzzuzzzzzzz Christ!   I thought the freaky deaky land lord video was bad enough!  Great of you to share the story and pic and for others with similar experiences to chime in and share the best way to take care of the "situation"!  It make you want to carry something capable of clipping one of those bad boys right off for sure.   I swear, I feel pain in my finger looking at it.   Of course once you have had a bullet cut out of you that just becomes a minor "flesh" wound!

Does anyone know if over-the-counter tooth numbing gel will help with a skin wound?  Having felt the pain of an impaled hook, I carry a tube in my yak, but I hope I never have to use it.  I also carry a pair of wire cutters that I hope will cut the largest hook I use.  I am currently carrying a very rusty pair of Channel Lock  wire cutters; they worked on a hook in my palm.  I have not been able to find a rust resistant pair of cutters that equal the Channel Locks.

Does anyone have a suggestion on rust resistant cutters?
Doug

I'll searching around and let you know if I can find one.  I wash and put some cooking oil on my cutter after a fishing trip and that seems to keep the rust away, you might want to try it.
