for reference that ruler is 66" exactly. that should cover all of the norcal AOTY fish of relevance.  i didn't want to do a hawg trough extender because I have enough problems with finding where to put my hawg trough at 30 inches already, and didn't want to put marks on my kayak in case i want to measure a fish in my lap.  the sticker is somewhat removable and it's waterproof. since I have the hobie i rarely use the paddle anyways.

i was going to do the IKEA ruler method but felt it would be more messy to deal with and there was an old post somewhere that said they may or may not shrink?

it's all wishful thinking anyways that I would catch a fish over 30" long..

IMO. All fish should be measured on a hawg trough including sturgeon with the tape measure or yardstick butted up tight against the end of the trough. An alternative method, especially for sturgeon or other big uns, would be to put both the fish and the end of the tape measure butted up against a wall. The same wall.  :smt005

One member's sturgeon that was posted up recently actually looked longer, in the picture, than the length claimed. The above method would leave no more room for additional questions, complaints, or polls.  :smt003

And Ben since you asked and because I'm such a big fan of Fonzie, "Sit on It!"  :smt044

Yeah jim, those would be better but i am trying to run light this year and I fish solo a lot so I can't really be messing with a tape measure while on the water.  mostly its a backup to the hog trough.  the measurement probably won't be perfect but i will round down if necessary and put up a poll when unnecessary.  :smt044

also its related to my ling last year. I really wanted to release it but I couldnt get a good measurement with a tape and a picture at the same time.  I felt bad when I opened it up and it was full of eggs.  coulda been thousands of baby lings from that girl out there terrorizing sand dabs right now.
