Hooked with Joel at 730AM  at HMB. I was planning on fishing Linda Mar but one of the OG suggested HMB might have better quality crabs. Joel said that was BS but what do I know.  :smt005 Really wanted to test my new shrimp trap which I bought from http://www.jollygoodtrap.com/index.htm. The owner Ray Surette, built me a shrimp trap to meet CA DFG specs and designed for kayak anglers. The trap is small enough to fit in a tankwell so ideal for surf launches. Can't say enough about the design, construction or what a great guy Ray is. All stainless steel with a pop up design. It was $80 which included shipping and a bait bag. May seem pricey but that is pretty standard for shrimp traps. Brought 3 Promar 102 traps along with my shrimp trap.

Dropped the shrimp trap first a few hundred yards off the getty in 40 FOW. I chose this area because Al caught some shrimp there last November. Then laid out 2 other crab traps in 30-40 FOW. I was talking to Joel and it was such a nice day we decided to paddle out to the green buoy and drop the 3rd trap. Dropped the 3rd trap in 50 FOW and then hung out around the the buoy for 30 minutes dodging PB's. Pulled the 3rd trap and caught the BIGEST STARFISH I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! OMG 24" across. Also caught some under dungies. Headed back in to pull my shrimp trap. Pulled it up and it was filled with all kinds of stuff. Small olive rockfish, smallsand dab, 2 small rock crabs AND MY FIRST SHRIMP!!!  :smt003 OK it was only one shrimp and a small one but after a 30 minute soak, things were looking good. Pulled my first crab trap for 2 small rock crabs so I moved it and dropped again. Pulled my second crab trap and bagged one legal dungie and 2 nice reds. Moved my 3rd trap next to my second and ended up with 4 dungies (6 3/4", 6 1/4", 6/14", 6"), 3 nice reds and one shrimp. MY personal best dungie. Really nice day with little swell although it was blowin pretty good from the south east. Had lunch with Joel at the Harbor Bar. My burger was the bomb. Life is good.  :smt006

Man, that looks great! Glad the shrimp trap worked out. Nice sized crabs too! Really couldn't beat the weather today.
