Boat Restrictions Continues

Due to the concern regarding contamination of the lake with aquatic invasive species such as Eurasian mussel, private boat launch will be restricted to boats that are stored at Loch Lomond Recreation Area for the season.

Due to popular demand the storage program for kayaks and canoes that was implemented in 2009 has been expanded to provide space for approximately one hundred kayaks and canoes or other boats that fit on the storage racks. There are fees associated with boat storage and space is limited. Contact recreation area staff at 831-335-7424 for more information. At this time, storage is not being offered for boats on trailers. The Loch Lomond Recreation Area has a substantial boat rental fleet that is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

I gave the number a call and talked to a ranger there.  Cost for the storage is total of $285 I believe.  20$ for the mussle inspection, 200$ for the storage of the boat for the whole season, and another 65$ for unlimited fishing and parking pass.

She also mentioned that there are only around 40 space left for the storage, and they are filling up quickly since the seaons opened today and word is starting to spread.

I miss kayaking this lake so much...  But unless someone wanted to partner up and store some boats up there for the whole season, just too expensive for me.

If they can do an inspection and store the boat at the site, then why cant we just go back to the inspections at the gate?!

Staffing hours way more with gateside inspections for evey boat that wants to come in.  they don't have the $$.

Cheaper to build racks and cahrge nominal rent, and keep the die hard LL'rs happy.  Lots of people paddle only at LL, so it works well for them.

Fornus, we'd have to dedicate a boat.  I'm not willing to do that specially considering no trout plants this year or last.

If I fish there thi year it will be from the bank or from a rental boat, unless I can arrange to borrow a boat.

That is an idea, though how about one bopat stored there, and we could share it?

Or, rent it out  to ncka's for like $10 a day?

I miss fishing and paddling there also but kind of resent being locked out unless I store my boat there for $285.  :smt011 Most of the NCKA guys I know from SC are hard core saltwater anglers so I don't think we would get enough usage unless the WX is bad and every one would want to use it.  :smt005

I forgot to mention that I asked if they will consider renting kayaks in the future, and they were open too it.  They said they were looking into it last year until the city ran out of money to purchase them.

Well... Maybe someday!

Yep.
I'm bummed because although I've lived just up the mountain for the last decade, I've never paddled Loch Lomond. $285 is too much for the 1 or 2 times a year I would probably paddle there.

F Santa Cruz county supervisors!  I'm boycotting the lake because of there misinformed notions.  I do miss the lake, but I'm not going back until I can bring my kayak in and use it.
Which won't be for a while while I'm up in Oregon.

so are these rules going to be forever??  is the invasive mussel thing something were always going to have to deal with from now on? Plus the no stocking rule?

Meh, it's a beautiful lake BUT they haven't planted trout since 2008, there aren't many holdovers, the bass fishing sucks, and...they don't allow beer. Oh, and it's way up in the hills, at the end of a narrow/windy road...on the corner of Redneck Rd and Methlab Ct.
So, personally, I won't miss it too much. :jerk:

It really does suck. That use to be such a nice place to spend the day and catch a ton of planters.

No beer, no boats, no fun : )

:smt044 That pretty much sums up my experiences in Zayante. I looked at a house for sale there once that had 3" of standing water....in the bedroom. There was also this opaque green box in the corner, it took me a few minutes to realize it was a fishtank
The place was full of poorly done taxidermy animals (skunks, possums, coyotes) and there was footnote on the sales doc specifiying "priceless heirlooms and period decor not included in sale" :smt005

That aside, some high surf summer days it would have been nice to toss the yak on the truck & have a leisurely paddle on the loch.

Porky, the no-stocking has to do with an ongoing lawsuit so one day that may be lifted. The mussel thing is probably here to stay I'm afraid, unless they somehow get into the lake anyway.
