There's 3 steelhead in this picture, less than 7 miles from downtown San Jose. I took this picture today.

can only see 3 bass

I know the top fish is definitely a LMB but can't be certain about the other two.

At one time steelhead did traverse the Guadalupe.  Don't know if they still do. :smt010  :smt011

Sorry those are not steelhead. But there are still a few that do go up Guadalupe.

That top fish is most likely a largemouth, so I'd guess the other 2 are the same but you never know. They certainly look like good size fish, might want to look into fishing that area once trout season opens. Or see if it is open during steelhead season. Check the regs. The Guadalupe still gets steelhead (and a few salmon!) and Coyote Ck gets more steelhead than most people probably realize. 'Tis the season!

On a related note, if anyone is interested in doing some urban yakkin/cleanup/exploration on Coyote or Guadalupe let me know.

I've not posted a true cleanup hookup because the logistics of pulling and disposing of all the trash are mind boggling...  and more than likely quite hazardous, and possibly not even legal....

But if anyone is up for an day of urban exploration let me know.  Maybe scope it out for future cleanups?

I drive over Coyote multiple times every day and get sick of seeing shopping carts and plastic bags.

nah, the top two are definitely bass, the bottom one is likely a bass as well but i cant tell for sure due to camera angle and coloration. almost looks like a giant bluegill from the color but probably not.

I believe Herman Garcia from CHEER normally is looking for volunteers as well. CHEER is based out of the south bay, but does conservation work up/down bay area water ways.

Have a look at their website for more info:

They all looked the same to me. I even pulled out a fish identification book so as not to stuff my foot in my mouth. I went back to the same spot, but could not get a good shot.

Please don't take offense, but if you don't know a LMB from a Steelhead, you should keep that book at hand!

Here is a picture I took last year of a trio in Dry Creek
