Thanks for the info Tim. Yeah, I think I've met Greg before (tall skinny dude with a pony tail)....and quite surprised that took the advice from some one who has the ability to get out of an in coming set with just a simple twist of the wrist :smt011 I'll have to check out that bask article...I'm curious now.....

Swell out of the west = sweeper sets.

Wind out of the south= blowing observers into the impact zone.

Be careful where you park. I've seen a lot of waxed windows before & now with the dispute between Jeff Clark & the corporate lawyers that have taken over the contest there is even more animosity towards the contest.

Being a past resident of HMB (and having a lot of surfer friends and old timer neighbors), I've heard many say that Jeff is not best "business person" to begin with. He does have a surf shop but it's in a very poor location (IMO at least) and hardly see's any traffic. I often wonder how he stays in business....and I'm sure it doesn't help now that he's no longer involved with the Mavericks. I do respect that he's a charger and that his surfing skills are top shelf but in the business world, all that experience and reputation won't cut you any deals if you don't know how to negotiate.

Just my 2 cents...

Anyway, I can imagine that the traffic will be bad tomorrow so i'll try to get there early and plan on spending the entire day there. If there's enough interest, perhaps a tail gate BBQ would be nice after the sight seeing :smt002

The Greg I referred to dosen't trim his hair much but he isn't tall. I think he is a nurse, and I heard he is a docent at the Fitzgerald Reserve up the road. If you want to read more about him on BASK, last summer he saved a guys life near Point Bonita. The guy was stuck in a cave and was ready to die and Greg got out of his Kayak and went in and saved him (with help). I heard it was all over BASK last summer.
Anyway, back to Jeff Clark. Did you notice the gal on the the news that works for Mavericks Inc. is his ex-wife? Billy and I surfed with his his wife (Cassandra) and her buddie (also with a very nice wetsuit) at mushroom last summer. Just the four of us. Memorable session. They were on SUP's. Would have been a good day for you mooch. Small glassy long waves. Her buddie was a rookie too. You might have still been working saturdays.
We always try to buy some gifts in that store when we can. Last fall, when I was buying a leash for my SUP, I asked the kid about Cassandra and he said she is there every day. A lot of small business do better when the dude who supposedly runs it, has a wife watching the books. I think the port still hasn't decided what they are going to put on the end there by the Ketch. The paper said Jeff's store was in the running. Maybe you could help Jeff be persuasive.

I was just to the north when I got my 2nd place Cabbie in the HMB derby a couple of years ago, fairly safe position.
