If those PB's can take 20-30 paying customers to watch safely, why not a kayak, right??  Of course, no freakin way I'd try it, but good luck!  Lookin' forward to the report!  (Don't forget the seasickness meds...)

Hey Mooch, just make sure that the pictures you take are from on top of the water.  Not under the water like the surfers view you get when you wipe out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do I have a bad feeling I'm going to read about this in the news... "three kayaks paddle out to see Mav and have to get rescued by jet skis. Surf contest is disrupted causing massive lawsuit.  See the action on U tube, filmed by helicopters."  It might not be too dangerous,  with all the boats, helicopters and jet skis, there should be plenty of people around to rescue you.  Being a surfer myself, I wouldn't think of paddling out on a day like that. With that much water moving, it could be easy to get separated from your boat.

I can see everyone's concern here but there is a safe zone where all the boats (like earlier mentioned) and kayaks hang out. If danger presents it's self, I have the option of bailing out on this trip.

.....And if I die, please bury me with my lap top  :smt002

Hey Joel. You may never have met him, but there is a local sea kayaker there named Greg that has a good story about what happened to him a contest or two ago. The jist of it is one of the safety guys encouraged him to get closer to the break, then a set came in and clobbered him. He is an expert with a bomb proof roll, but he ended up swimming. Greg posted the long version of the story on BASK when it happened a few years ago. He is an instructor at CCK. The point is, if some guy on a waverunner tells you to get closer, don't do it.
This winter has been so big, tomorrow will be the sixth saturday that we've gone to Bolinas instead of PP.
