Pat was looking to hook up and do some striper fishing on Sunday, and Sara and I wanted to do a lil camping together, FnC style  :smt004 so we ended up making it a fun overnighter instead of just a day trip.

It rained HARD on the way down 101 but we were blessed with no rain at all the rest of the weekend.  We still set up camp like we were in for another Storm Trooper training session. :cold Sara made a new chili recipe for the dutch oven, which turned out great.  And we basically hung out by the fire listening to music and chatting till we ran out of firewood and hit the hay for the night.

Woke up and gave Pat a call, he is actually a bit early (rare!) and we figure out where we want to launch and head out to launch by the bridge.  Soon as we are all set and ready to go, Pat realizes he is missing something... :smt044  So as we launch, I towed Pat over to the bridge and he anchored up and we went about fishing.

Sara motions over to something splashing in the water, and come to find a bird is caught up in some fishing line along the string of buoyes. :smt009 I paddle over and the poor bird starts diving trying to get away.  I ened up cutting him free, but didn't see if he had a hook in him or something that needed to be removed.  Anyway, he was gone in an instant after the line was cut, so hopefully he's ok.

Other than that, it was cold, and breezy and we didn't end up out there very long.  I lost the only fish that bit my line, and nothing for Pat or Sara.  We did see a giant carp splash but that was about it.

Oh and Pat found that didn't need a paddle to get back  :smt005 and we packed up and left.

Each year there is a debate about nets---should I get one, which is better, a big or small net, etc. And I have always been a proponent of the big net. For many reasons. But I now have another reason to advocate using a big net....it can double as a paddle!  :smt005 It worked surprisingly well as a paddle.

Doesn't this site have a "Bone award" of sorts for things of this nature (forgetting important items)?    :smt044

I think there should be if not.

Once again, you guys are killing me up here in the great Pacific North West!  (It's only temporary  :smt012)

Good job on rescuing the bird there Al.  The chilli looked good can't wait till I get a chance to try some again! (It's only temporary)

Pat, just a suggestion from a brother to another, stick you paddle (and PFD) inside your kayak's hatch and you'll never have that problem again.....and keep that "little" net that you have now.....in fact it may be a little to big for all those little fish that you catch :smt002
