Fish Master1,

I picked up a older one about 2 years ago, love it, its great for the family when not tenting it..

All I have done so far is replace the electrical, added a cigarette lighter for powering accessories, and a new water pump and new fridge... also two new propane tanks....

Shag carpet sounds awesome, but my dogs would destroy that in one dusty trip to tahoe..

Im interested to see what you have in mind for racks? I dont want to put any direct pressure on the roof itself cause they do tend to sag...

But id like to hear what your thinking for racks...?

I also installed two high power batteries rather then one... for the heater fan, water pumps, and lighting...

Do a good check up of the underside of the trailer, there's wood that can tend to rot, the corner's are the most suspect, they get a lot of pressure when you pop the top and can eventually break the wood

I don't know about the shag carpet  since I am always playing in the dirt and mud. I put a rack system on top the I tie down everything from kayaks to bikes and more. I just made sure to drill through the supports beams and bolt them down. No problems at all and works great.
here is a links for something like I have

yeah, that a great system, ive been considering it myself, and it mounts in the right place and keep the weight of the center of the roof...

thanks for the link.

THanks I know I found it cheaper than this some but not sure where. Just make sure to get the correct size for your trailer. Good luck Googling.

I actually got a pop up a few years ago a fully re did the inside. New counters, flooring, bedding, etc. This thing even has a hot water heater and a propane or 12V fridge. I am now re doing the exterior. Paint, lighting and I plan on adding racks (i just need the weather to cooperate). I am thinking about using 3/4" black pipe that I will paint with truck bed liner. I am thinking that I will attach the pipe with closet flanges bolted (and sealed) thru the roof.

Tote did an awesome job refinishing a tent trailer. Cleanest one I ever saw (pics of). It's posted on here somewhere.

I just upgraded from a tent trailer.  It was great, easy to tow, ect.  I made kayak racks on it out of angle iron, with some iron water pipe welded on top.  I cut it to span the roof, so the weight rested on the edges of the top, and bolted it down.  The angle iron fit great right over the edge of the roof.  A good coat of paint, and it worked out well!  I still tied the bow and stern down though, in case it let loose in a hard wind.  Just dont raise the roof with the kayaks on top, most trailers can't handle much weight on the roof when open.  If you don't have a welder, bolts through the ends of the pipe and angle iron would work perfect.

Put a tube across the racks for your fishing rods!

I also put a 12 volt computer fan and thermostat across the cooling eliments of the fridge.  That way in our 100 degree weather, it would still stay moderately cool.

An inverter was run through one of the flaps to the battery to watch dvd.  Most of which consisted of barbie or princess movies for the daughter.   :smt011

It had a chemical toilet, which really stunk at night.  I replaced it with a biodegradable bag toilet from Wally World.  Easier to empty in the morning.

One of the Coleman camp stove ovens which folds flat was great!  Biscuits in the morning on the range top...mmmm

A couple of clip on 12volt auto fans were nice when it got a little warm.  I hung a couple of LED headlamps or clip lights on the bar across the beds for night lights or for reading.

Wish I had some pictures of the tent trailer, but just got a 24 ft ultralite prowler.  Easier with the family and more weather resisistant.  I just put the kayaks on the truck camper roof rack now.  That way there is no dissassembly to open up the trailer when I roll in late at night or in overnight turnouts/potty breaks on the way to camp.  The gas mileage was better with the tent trailer though.

Matt

We bought a 1960's POS camp trailer to fix up. It's only 14 ft from rear bumper to the tongue.it's not a pop up. I took the propane fridge out and replaced it with a cooler. I also have an electric fridge that will fit there should we camp near a hook up for an extended period of time.
Lightweight, easy to tow and store.
The kayaks go on top of the vehicle. I already have a kayak trailer.
Here is the transformation:

Here is the process:

A before and and after pic of the outside too.
